Band Meeting!
His Lordship (present), myself (present) and 3 of our closest friends (present, present, present) trundled off to the NIA in Birmingham last night to see the quite simply amazing Flight of the Conchords on their stadium tour.
We'd tried to get some tickets when they were first released back in March but they'd sold out within 30 minutes and within 45 really expensive auctions were popping up on eBay. Anyone who'd seen me that day will know how fuming I was about that (inclusing rants on the reselling of tickets &c &c) Then the joyful day came when more seats were released and we managed to snap up five before they sold out. I was "woo-hoo"-ing all over the place.
They opened with Too Many Dicks on the Dancefloor, but dressed in more bling robot helmets from the distant future.
All the songs were mixed with rock 'n' roll ancedotes like that time Bret plugged in his guitar and it went bang and the amazing muffin story. They are leading the rock 'n' roll life, they really are. When they were talking about New Zealand some amazingly witty Brummie started going 'baaaaa'. Jermaine told them to "F*ck off" to many lols from the audience. They then launched into Hurt Feelings.
They played various bits and pieces from the two series of the show as well as a couple of songs I'd not heard before (including one about wooing a medieval lady (is that from the radio shows or is that new?))
Bowie in Space was amazing, but I can't tell you why because of spoilers :D Let's just say that it got many cheers and many photos taken illegally. (The stewards were very militant when it came to taking photos, we were on the back row on the floor so we had no chance of taking any. Hopefully some will surface on Flickr and the like over the next few days.)
Jermaine can't do a Brummie or a Manc accent. But he gave it a valiant try.
We were even treated to Albi (the racist dragon) and a retelling of the whole episode that was in the show. It's the favouritest part of the entire series for our friend so she was completely made up.
Business Time was very oh yeah...
In conclusion:
A five-star night out. Bit sad at the lack of inclusion of some of the old favourites like The Distant Future and my personal favourite Friends but I am so glad I got to see them.
Now people of the UK, please can you get voting on the ATP website to get them as curators for next year's ATP. Ex-Cheddar can go and stay with Nannie so that I can go. :D
