on Robin Hood

I find Robin Hood so much more enjoyable if I think of it not as historical fantasy but as futuristic fantasy and it's not actually medieval England but some far-distant Pern-like planet where everyone's gone cod-medieval because it explains away all the anachronisms so neatly.

And all the geographical errors.

For example. This week they visited Clun. The only Clun in the country is in Shropshire (and it has an ace pub there) As you can see it's a little bit out of the local Nottingham area. (Clun is the blue marker on the left, Nottingham on the right)

Also, turquoise in the forest? Not the best camouflage colour. Does Marion want to get picked off by one of the Sheriff's soldiers?

One of the guys at work calls it Robin Hood and his men of Topman and Topshop.

A tiny bit. *lol* Hardly noticeable. I gave up on seeing Robin Hood as historical in any way when I discovered Robin's hoody.

Does that mean that we can have dragons?

Yes. Especially if they sound a bit like Sean Connery.

The noticeably-less-shite Robin of Sherwood also went to Clun once (with much mentioning of how it was fucking far away from Sherwood, as I recall), so either a)there's some existing 'legend' of him popping up there or b)the writers also watched that one and thought it sounded reasonable. My money is naturally on the latter.

I missed it again, boo. But I am guessing that Marion didn't become a possessed sex monkey and almost married some nutter who looked like the bloke from Doctor & the Medics?

No, she didn't this week, but there's still time.

I think people just like the name Clun.

I'm not sure I wish to tune in for the sexploits of possessedmonkey!Marion, even if she is less annoying this year.

I recall being v cross with their pronunciation of Clun on RoS, me being a small Welsh person and knowing it was on the borders. But they do mostly call it Clun-like-Bun not Clun-like-Clean in Clun itself, just not in the nearby Welsh bits. Somehow I doubt the RH producers were all that fussed about getting it right...

I'm totally ignoring all the blunders and complaints and just enjoying it for the fantastic romp it is ;o)
though I agree I couldn't help but wonder at the Turquoise lol

Hee! Futuristic-earth is probably the best way to think of it.

I love the tiny flashes of emotional realism and moral complexity here and there. They stand out so much more against the cheese than they would in an actual *good* show.

That aqua Primark t-shirt and pleated trousers outfit was the stupidest thing she's worn so far.
