Illustrated thoughts on Torchwood (2x13 only)
Rhys fits in

quite nicely with the swishy-coated Team Torchwood. He's probably the most competent of the lot of them too. Hoorah Rhys.
Oh noes! Cardiff is in danger again!

It makes me glad I don't live there. For a city it's about as jeopardy friendly as Tokyo is.
"It's all going to cock here"

PC Andy is calm in a crisis. Even with his bosses blood up the walls behind him. Nice to see that all it takes to bring him and Gwen back together is a city in crisis. Oh God, I hope this means that he doesn't die. Remember kids, people aren't allowed to be happy in the nu!Whoniverse, it's a fundamental thing, a bit like gravity, and kebab shops.
You know how you get that feeling

when someone's been in an empty room. That slightly unsettling one when you know that something isn't quite right? Jack's got that feeling right there. Sarah Brightman does that to people. It's a skill.
Jack is not pleased to see his unwelcome guest

No kiss and scrap this time then? Shame. Again Sarah Brightman does that to people. I think Captain John should have gone for a nice bit of PJ and Duncan, something like "Let's get ready to Rhumble", you know it makes sense.
Captain John really holds a grudge doesn't he?

But even so, he doesn't want to kill Jack. If he did he would have just chopped his head off. Which he didn't.
Where's my Butler when I need him?

Jack ruins another dress shirt. Honestly, Vanish don't make enough stain remover to cope with Jack Harkness.
Meanwhile, in Cardiff's police cells

The usual Friday night crowd were in. Weevils react very badly to those vodka alcopops. Become really fighty and mouthy. And they start dancing to the beeping sounds pelican crossings make (a prize to the first person who can name the show).
Randomly the Grim Reaper (and friends) come to check out their servers

WTF? think Ianto and Tosh

It's random even for Team Torchwood. Maybe they are the Death of computers (and his friends). Probably rightly, Tosh and Ianto adopt a "shoot first and ask questions later", although you'd have thought they would have gone "and you are...?"
And in another example of "Bollocks, we've run out of monster budget"

We've got the rather Alien-looking Hoix (last seen chasing the Doctor and Rose in Love & Monsters) It's a great monster design, I like all it's teeth. (And it has the added bonus of probably shifting more Hoix action figures)
Biting social commentary on the dangers of smoking?

I'd like to think so.
That Jack Harkness, he's always hanging around.

Wakey wakey, a city to save and all that. I want to know why there were chains hanging from the dam walls in the first place. Why wouldn't I be surprised if it had something to do with hockey sticks and avant garde extra curricular activities?
John tries to psychically tell Jack what's going on

It doesn't work.
It's the pleasure/pain principle

Jack's not really in the mood though. Have to say, those wrist communicators are a bit rubbish. They can get bombs fitted to them, sonically disabled and remote controlled rather effectively. Jack's better off without one to be honest.
Don't touch that!

If Ianto was there he would have punched him. History repeating and all that. John's very knowledgeable on how the thing works. What's the betting the instruction manual for it is hung on a bit of string off the side of the water fountain.
Carrying on the famous landmarks of Cardiff

We have Cardiff Castle (actually being used as a castle and not Downing Street or something)
Rhys and Andy must think Gwen's going mad

Shouting to herself in the cells and all
John's regenerating Cardiff

single handedly. Although blowing it up is a bit harsh. I didn't really see the point of it - other than it being part of Grey's wish to destroy Jack's life from the inside out, and for Jack to have hung around Cardiff for so long he must have fallen in love with the city, even a little bit.
I can't say that I like the new look

Remind me not to hang around Cardiff in 2010 (year based loosely on the Torchwood time line there from the stuff mentioned in last weeks episode.)
Hold me!

John's got a cheek.
Does someone have it in for Cardiff?

Because it has been pretty much completely destroyed.
I remember when all this was fields

Well tended fields at that too.
Oh woe is me

Look at my poor molecularly bonded wrist. It hurts so much, boo hoo. I'm finding it very hard to generate some sympathy for our John. As is Jack.
it's Grey/Gray

No one seems to be able to decide on a spelling. I'd like to know why he's wearing a duvet though. As the series Big Bag (a la Buffy) he's not much cop (a bit like Glory then).
Nice to see you brother, can I stab you with a short sword now?

No love lost there then.
Rhys becomes seriously impressed by his wife

And realises that she actually can be competent and calm in a crisis. I think it's a side he doesn't see all that often.
I wonder how long Jack did search for Gray?

I wonder if that was his reason for joining the Time Agency
A parting gift

John does still love Jack, even a little bit.
I wonder who got the job to flick bits of dirt on John Barrowman?

Being buried alive really isn't fun at all. I wonder how many times Jack died and revived over the 1900 years between getting buried and being found.
Grey checks out the Hub's decor

He doesn't seem particularly impressed. Probably not enough corpses for his liking. Well, he soon sorts that out. :(
Gwen's only barely holding it together

Well, it's not something you cover in basic training. But Rhys believes in her, and that's all that matters.
It's all sex, sex, sex with you lot

This year, really it isn't.
Okay, that's really gross

Maybe we can gudgingly admit that woe was him then.
There's a Weevil loose about this hoose

Luckily Ianto and Tosh, alien subduers extraordinaire are on hand to do a bit of housekeeping
Another thing not covered in basic training

When your resident Weevils mysterious escape their cells don't all go into their cells at the same time. *tuts* You lot only have yourselves to blame.
Meanwhile Owen's showing off his extensive knowledge

Well, now he's dead and not sleeping, he's got time to fill with Discovery Science and Wikipedia.
Noes!

I don't like the way Grey is trying to improve the decor (and he's automatically inspired the wrath of at least 90% of the TW fen too). Poor Tosh, the moment she's happy her world goes to shit (again).
John gets his McGuyver on

it's amazing what you can do with a 51st Century bit of gadgetry and a bit of wire. You can't help but be impressed.
Can you hear a strange knocking?

It's probably nothing, just the Victorian central heating. (BTW it's nice to see that at least one of the other morgue doors open.)
Hello!

Jack is amazingly cheery for someone who's been cryogenically asleep for the last 100 years.
Even Victorian Team Torchwood were on the case

Although they will get a crash course in time lines and why not to cross them by Jack. Anyone got a sheet of A4 he can screw up. I really get the feeling that 1901 Torchwood are not great fans of the good Captain.
Jack forgives Grey for burying him alive

After all, what else is a big brother to do? Unfortunately it looks like Gray will join the ranks of those people that Jack is unable to save.
So he chloroforms him

Well it is something that does prove to be rather effective on the Harkness physiology. But his action really do break Jack's heart.
Where have all the Weevils gone? Abergavenny?

Actually, that would explain a lot...
Tosh hold it together for Owen

She's breaking my heart, let alone Owen breaking hers.
Always last in line for the hugs

Yes John, yes you are.
No Owen not again!

You've already died once this year!! Although he comes to terms with impending doom rather quickly. Well I suppose he's already been there once, he knows what to expect.
Tosh can't tell Owen that she's dying

Hand up who were crying their eyes out right about now?
And then starting bawling right about here

:( It's amazing how fandom has done a complete 180 with Owen over the last thirteen weeks. Last year if you polled a random sample of fans at least 80% would have liked to have seen him eaten by a Weevil. Now a good 80% are devastated over his (second death). It's just hoes to show what a wonderful actor Burn Gorman is and how much he'll be missed. *salutes him*
I did good?

Yes Tosh, yes you did. Poor Tosh, so underused, living a life so full of pain and loneliness. This is no ending for her. Even if she did save Cardiff.
All these reactions, completely real

I'm guessing that this was the scene they couldn't do any rehearsal for because they were so upset just reading through the script. Not surprising really, the five of them are like family, what with working together 16 hours a day 5 or 6 days a week. :(
Goodbye Gray

Unfortunately I do have the feeling that Gray's going to end up coming back at some point in the future, maybe there's a powercut and the cryo chambers defrost or something.
As a villain, and as a plot point that the second series hinged on, he was awfully weak. His motivations were too sketched in, there was no depth to him at all. And he wasn't particularly convincing.
be seeing you.

I get the feeling we'll be seeing more of Captain John. A new member of Team Torchwood maybe? An uncontracted agent a bit like Jack originally was?
Ianto grieves in his own way

He's aware, more than all of them how fleeting life is when you're working for Torchwood. Don't forget, most of his colleagues were either killed by Daleks or turned into Cybermen and all his rootling around in the archives of Torchwood Three has given him an insight into how working for Torchwood is a job for life, just not necessarily a long one. I get the feeling his is the most pragmatic of all of the remaining members of Team Torchwood. But that doesn't mean that he's not grieving deeply for Tosh and Owen.
Someone give the man a hug

Just wanted to comment on the fact how great it is to see a man cry. You never get to see that on Telly. It's all stiff upper lips and whatnot.
You were fantastic

Oh Tosh. :( I may have started blubbing again right about here. Especially when we was 'talking' to Owen.
I don't know if I can carry on

But as Jack rightly points out, they have to. It's what they do.
What a depressing end to the series

So Team Torchwood are in the market for someone with technical/computer/hacking knowledge and a doctor. I wonder where they'll find either of those from.
In Conclusion
The main plot was nonsensical (a bit like last year's series finale) and seemed to only be there to serve the B-plot (Tosh and Owen) which was well written, heartbreakingly acting and surprisingly emotional.
9/10

:'(
And I do hope Grey doesn't turn up again - awful, awful actor.

Yeah, I had 4 fangirls crying in my living room, thanks to this. Awesome stuff, even if the plot and Gray were a bit shit.

Truer words never spoken!

SPACED! And I agree with your conclusions.
*runs out again*

Burn and Naoko were fantastic!
The guy who played Adam in ep 5 would have been a better choice for Gray imo

And yes, I cried. A lot.
P.S. This might be a copy as I wasn't signed in. Arse!

Aside: the screencap of destroyed Cardiff looks like Battleships.
