We went to a Kerrang! tour gig last night at the Academy in Birmingham. We were really only going to see t'Biffy (for they are love and I have a thing for Scots with beards;)) so we didn't see the first two acts. I was feeling rather out-of-place clothes-wise because I really wasn't looking very scene - lots of emo fringes, cheap, colourful plastic beads and polka-dots. It's almost painful to see how scene Birmingham girls try to look - and so many of them look uncomfortable too.

We caught the Bronx though - why do rock (\m/) bands automatically think that louder is better? The insturments were so loud you couldn't hear the singer - who is apparently rather good and the sound distortion was awful. Before one of the songs the singer did a thing where he was going on about being "a band for the people" before diving into the crowd and singing his song from the audience.

Biffy Clyro (and their beautiful, lucious beards) were much better, running through all their hits - the entire audience singing along and drowning them out. There is much love for Biffy from Biffy fans and they deserve it. I just wish that fame would finally find them because they deserve it so much.

Thanks to the stupid Bronx my left ear is now royally fucked. Really. You know that funny sensation you get in your ear when there is water in it? It's like that. It feels horrible and I hate not being able to hear properly. I wonder if I can sue.

Final scores:
The Bronx - 3/10
Biffy Clyro - 8/10
Ear pain - 9/10

Musicians earplugs are an absolute lifesaver. Since I mainly frequent rock concerts and hate music being up to loud I don't go without them. Ordinary ear plugs filter everything out but the proper ones leave the music in tact just take the shreddiness out :)

They are a touch expensive though.
