Oh LJ. Why so slow? And why so quiet, where have all the cool kids (ie my flist) gone.

Have you been seduced by the pretty wiles of tumblr? Or has everyone got sick of the slowdown and moved to DW? (I really ought to get one of those.)

Posted via LiveJournal.app.

...that's making a lot of people jump ship to Dreamwidth?

(I really need to start getting onto LJ more than once a week)

Dear LJ

Please can you explain to me why you think anyone would want to repost comments or posts belonging to other people to Twitter or Fabebook? Especially Twitter, it's only 140 characters.

No love

LiveJournal have finally made a statement about deleting and purging accounts that they've been going on about for ages. However, it doesn't appear to be all good news.

If you have a journal that's not been logged into or updated for over 24 months it will be purged and the ground salted. (This means my original journal, that I lost the password for will be gone). The usernames will then become available for you to create/rename.

Via [livejournal.com profile] txvoodoo: they were going to delete all the comments belonging to a journal that's been deleted and purged, but they seem to have changed their mind about it. And a further update

What about those journals that belong to deceased people?

Oh LiveJournal, why don't you think these things through before you go and do them?

My inbox count has been stuck at 1923 for about a fortnight now. Rubbish. I will have to open a support request I think.

[livejournal.com profile] antumbral makes a really good post over on Dreamwidth about the new affliate mining code LJ have implemented with instructions on how to opt-out.

Does anyone know of a script or something we can put into our custom layout layers to block LJ from redirecting links for people who haven't opted out (i.e. people who read your journal but don't have an LJ account) because there's some awful privacy issues around every link that is HOVERED over being sent on to a third party.
kaliha: (Oh Noes! // nostalgia_lj)
They've gone and done it again! This time they've put a bit of obfuscated javascript code into all LJ pages which redirects links you post out of LJ through a third party site and if you have affiliate links in your links then your affiliate number is being stripped out and replaced with LJ's. So LJ is basically stealing your money. Tut tut tut.

The Doctor Who Buzzcocks did make me laugh rather a lot, but it also made me cringe in embarrasment too.
[x] Bernard Cribbins is a god of a man, he made me laugh so much. And he's a sharp as a pin too with perfect comedy timing. Him and Brian Blessed should join forces and fight crime with their AWESOME
[x] David's Tennant's love of Coldplay has torn me. (I can't stand them.)
[x] Noel Fielding's donkey ear hat would go really nicely with the cape he was wearing last week.
[x] I want whatever Catherine Tate was on.
[x] Jamie Cullen. Why?
[x] I am embarrassed that I couldn't guess the Muse track on the intros round. I am a bad bad Muse fan. The Matt Bellamy 'facts' afterwards gave me a chuckle though.

  • Have you all got your hotels booked yet?
  • Have you sorted out how you're getting to Cardiff?
  • Do you all have my phone number?
  • Please can I be texted Monday morning to remind me to pick up the tickets. (I am sleep deprived, I am very likely to forget)
  • [livejournal.com profile] doylefan22 is Piper's friend still taking the spare ticket?

Linked from a couple of places on my flist: MU is apparently having issues with virus infected flash adverts. [livejournal.com profile] seperis links to some useful free programmes and tips on how to protect yourself and what to do should you be infected. (I'm quite pleased that I have no-script installed on my firefox which blocks any flash stuff opening unless I specifically load it up.)

ElJay has now implemented Pingbacks. (OMG we're like a proper blog now!) and also now has a way for you to report bots.

I've got man!flu. Blowing my nose all day had led to an almost continuous nosebleed tonight, and it feels like there is a spiky conker shell in the top of my right lung (which tends to signify the Oncoming Chest infection).

So all in all I feel a bit rubbish to be honest.

woes. etc.

In other news, I can't find the new Locke Lamora anywhere and have decided that Amazon is lying to me with their advertised release date of 1st November. Have emailed the publishers to see when it is coming out.

In case you've not noticed there's no LJ tomorrow. At least that'll free my evening up a bit...
