LiveJournal have finally made a statement about deleting and purging accounts that they've been going on about for ages. However, it doesn't appear to be all good news.

If you have a journal that's not been logged into or updated for over 24 months it will be purged and the ground salted. (This means my original journal, that I lost the password for will be gone). The usernames will then become available for you to create/rename.

Via [livejournal.com profile] txvoodoo: they were going to delete all the comments belonging to a journal that's been deleted and purged, but they seem to have changed their mind about it. And a further update

What about those journals that belong to deceased people?

Oh LiveJournal, why don't you think these things through before you go and do them?

They've gone and done it again! This time they've put a bit of obfuscated javascript code into all LJ pages which redirects links you post out of LJ through a third party site and if you have affiliate links in your links then your affiliate number is being stripped out and replaced with LJ's. So LJ is basically stealing your money. Tut tut tut.
