LiveJournal have finally made a statement about deleting and purging accounts that they've been going on about for ages. However, it doesn't appear to be all good news.

If you have a journal that's not been logged into or updated for over 24 months it will be purged and the ground salted. (This means my original journal, that I lost the password for will be gone). The usernames will then become available for you to create/rename.

Via [livejournal.com profile] txvoodoo: they were going to delete all the comments belonging to a journal that's been deleted and purged, but they seem to have changed their mind about it. And a further update

What about those journals that belong to deceased people?

Oh LiveJournal, why don't you think these things through before you go and do them?

My inbox count has been stuck at 1923 for about a fortnight now. Rubbish. I will have to open a support request I think.

[livejournal.com profile] antumbral makes a really good post over on Dreamwidth about the new affliate mining code LJ have implemented with instructions on how to opt-out.

Does anyone know of a script or something we can put into our custom layout layers to block LJ from redirecting links for people who haven't opted out (i.e. people who read your journal but don't have an LJ account) because there's some awful privacy issues around every link that is HOVERED over being sent on to a third party.

because they can't be bothered to let you know you have to go and look it up yourself:

14th August 2008: The end of Basic Accounts as we know them. (original post about what they were planning to do with basic accounts)

Changes planned to the Suspend journal punishment

Forced changes to your profile - Due September (I think you can look at it and see how it affects your journal by going through modify journal or something. I can't remember off hand)

And then from this post
- search for users by their email addresses (you may want to be setting up LJ-only gmail accounts then)
- a LJ-toys like feature which will allow you to track who is reading your journal
- ability to search your journal (but only if you're a paid/permanent/early adopter account)
