The first news story I really remember was the Challenger Disaster (January 1986). Me and my sibling were watching CBBC. It was on Newsround and we didn't really understand what were were seeing. My sibling (who was four at the time) thought it was a firework. Our mum had to explain to us what was going on.
My sibling then stuck a shirt button up her nose and we spent the rest of the evening in Casualty waiting to get it tweezered out.
