Oh Gene (and Sam) how I have missed you!

And here be some reviews in bullet point form

[x] What an opening: You'd wake up in a bit of shock if you had Gene kicking your door in. (I think he just likes doing it)
[x] When that Ford Cortina comes squealling around the corners you can almost smell the burning rubber. I'm very tempted to remortgage the house to bid on it for Comic Relief. It puts my Fiesta to shame.
[x] Old Skool Fairy Liquid references! \o/ Police officers in marigolds is pretty much the most random thing I've seen on TV for quite a while.
[x] Loved Annie embracing the whole modern policing thing with cordoning off the area. Bless her.
[x] It's GIBBS! The episode is shaping up to be crossover-tastic. What with Marc Warren in it too.
[x] That Eve looked familiar. Oh it's Jabe from Doctor Who! She's obviously working her way round all the BBC Wales shows. :D Which is a good thing, cos she's ace.
[x] Marc Warren = Brilliant. Although his hair was extremely frightening. his accent was good too.
[x] Did Sam's actions in the past trigger his predicament in the future? After all, he did tell Crane that he was killing him in the future. And Crane had plenty of time to harbour his hatred while banged up in a psych ward somewhere.
[x] But Sam, why did you go telling your future murderer that you're basically a crazy man? That's not going to work out well. Especially now you've been tasked to keep it secret, keep it safe.
[x] Gene and Sam's synchronised punch-up was lovely to behold. They really are a brilliant team, no? And even though Gene was rolling around on the floor he still managed to keep his cigarette in his mouth. What a guy. And check that Sam was alright instead of chasing after the criminal!
[x] It's somewhat worrying by how easily the extremely-principled Sam has picked up the bad habits of his Seventies counterparts. *tuts* The thing with the watch? Sam; I expected better of you. Really, it's only Annie who's flying the flag for modern policing.
[x] And he lived without life support for fifteen minutes. Well that's a good thing, isn't it?
[x] Sam's proud to be one of the team. Awww.
[x] I may have cheered when WDC Annie Cartwright walked in, all promoted. She'll soon kick the rest of the detectives into shape. Whether they like it or not. And her pinching of Ray's bum was inspired.
[x] And who is the mysterious caller? Sam's subconcious? A Higher power? Aliens? Torchwood? The "I'm from the foo-ture!" thing is going to come back to haunt him, isn't it?

Below here is spoilers for 2x02. Big spoily spoilers!

Oh Auntie Beeb, two episodes in one night? You really are spoiling us. And this is even better than Fererro Roche!

[x] I'm sure I've driven through that countryside. It looked just like a bit of road just south of Bolton. Just like it.
[x] My mum had a waistcoat just like Annie's! In fact, I reckon she still has up in the loft somewhere.
[x] Chris worries about getting fitted up for something he didn't do and ending up in prison. Bless.
[x] More Gibbs! *loves* but he's got a secret and he's crooked like anything. That sort of makes me sad.
[x] The way Glen acted to fit in made me all sad. It's embarassing to see just how institutionally racist we were back then.
[x] Glen worked in Hyde! And he knows about Sam! Glen is knowing a lot more than he's letting on I think.
[x] Loved Phyllis getting all arsey with the Bank Robbers. She probably could have taken them down single handedly.
[x] I do NOT like the way Gene is walking round his his gun stuffed in his pants. He's going to end up shooting his balls off. I am always amused to see Sam holding a gun because he always has a two-handed grip and holds it properly and Gene's always one handed and half as likely to beat you with it as shoot you.
[x] The look on Sam's face a) when he was rumbled by Wolf (well, staking him out in one of the station's cars is hardly subtle) and b) when Gene turned up in a squeal of tyres with a bellowing "Come here!"
[x] Gene locking Sam in the boot of the Cortina made me laugh so much.
[x] I wondered how long it would be before Sam rung Hyde 2126. I wonder if the numbers have any meaning.
[x] it's sad to see Gene being so let down by his mentor, it juxtaposes how well Sam got on with Glen in the future.
[x] I need to watch it again, but I reckon Lost and Found is being populated with stuff that has appeared in previous episodes. Now, is this money saving or an insight into the workings of Sam's mind?

Favourite Quote:
Gene: You are surrounded by Armed Bastards!

So there's some things that seem to be becoming a recurring theme.
[x] There's loads of repetition of things from the first series. (like the Armed Bastards comment). I've ordered my boxset today (£15 from Amazon - bargin) so I'm going to make a list.
[x] Someone from the future (of 1973) but connected to Sam's past is involved each episode. First Crane and then Glen.
[x] Is Hyde purgatory? *waits for inevitable snarky comments from the locals* Glen says that he was working at Hyde for a time and beore he turned up at the station Sam ound out that he'd died.
