Where: Barfly, Digbeth, Birmingham. 9th November 2005.

The Barfly is the old Sanctuary building and is actually quite grotty looking from the outside. Traisping up in the cold, dark November night to what looked like a locked-up building was a bit disconcerting. So we wondered round to the back door and skulked in.

There were only about twenty people there and half of those were our group

Scott Matthews
Ooh he's good. So very good. You can listen to him sing on his extremely swanky website. He's another local lad and was so very polite and stuff, even though there was only 15 people there.
7/10

James Sommerfield
My first impression of him was that he was very, very thin. His arms were even less muscley than mine. I liked him though. He was a bit James Blunt-y (but don't hold that against him)
5/10

Vijay Kishore
Oh wow. Really. Wow. He was living the rock-life before his set, drinking Red Blossom Hill straight from the bottle (and then swigging from it on stage) \m/ He's been called 'the Asian Jeff Buckley' but I think he's even better than Jeff Buckley. His voice is absolutely amazing. Proper goosebump moments. His Lordship was laughing with joy at the music, which is a very high compliment (the only other time I know of him doing that was when he heard Elbow's Newborn).
8.5/10

Paul Aiden
Poor Paul, it's a hard job to come on after Vijay, but you're not going to endear yourself to the thirty people standing there watching you if you tell them off for talking. His lyrics were a bit cliched too, but he had some really bouncy guitar riffs which I quite liked.
5/10

We snuck out and decamped to the Rainbow on Digbeth High Street. Where His Lordship and Greg treated themselves to tequila avec worms. I was a bit worried, (memories of Tequila-Night at Uni 8 years ago still fresh in my mind) but HL managed to knock back the tequila and chew the worm and not be instantly sick. He was feeling it this morning though and was feeling extremely rough (serves him right).

A very good night was had by all. But getting back after 1am was not nice and I'm very tired this morning.

I thought that Vijay was great that night. I also thought Paul Aiden was fantastic and would have given him a 9 out of 10...
I don't think he told anyone to stop talking??
