Yes, I know I'm ridiculously behind on all these. But I am catching up, really, really, slowly.
Owen :(

I am actually very sad about Owen's demise and seeing him lying there with a massive hole in his chest actually gives me a *sadface*. You know, I'd have never had said that a year ago. Burn Gorman has completely won me over.
That's a creepy girl

Is she more or less creepy than the Test Card Girl from Life on Mars? Her tarot cards are great though. I like Tarot!Jack in his suit of armour. Knight in shining armour? You're having a laugh.

That's a lot of Weevils

I wonder what the collective name for a bunch of Weevils is? An overall? A growl? We actually learn quite a bit about the Weevils in this one scene. They live in communal groups. The are terrible horders and like students they like pinching traffic cones and the flashing yellow lights you get on roadworks.
Weevil collection

They also like dolls and stuff.
No, it's a risen mitten!

No good is going to come of this let me tell you. I don't get Jack's insistence that this glove is going o be different from the last glove. If they 'come in pairs' (and Ianto so helpfully pointed out) they wouldn't they do the same thing? And what happened to the one from They Keep Killing Suzie I thought it was put in the vaults. (I've not had chance to go back and check) so if someone could let me know I'd be grateful.
Although if it was put in the vaults then Jack wouldn't have gone looking for the other one unless he thought it did something different.
Unexpected orgasm!face

undead!Owen

Hello big hole in m'chest!

I'm a bit surprised that the bullet didn't go all the way through Owen and out of the other side. Jim Robinson (sorry!) was standing ever so close when he shot him. He must have a really thick heart.
The make-up effect is quite good though, although from certain angles it doesn't (obviously) look very deep.
I don't know if anyone else has noticed, but this is the time when they did all the Promo pictures for Series 2 with Martha in
See? Now look at Owen. We didn't realise it, but for months we've been looking at a dead man. Ooh-er. And we never knew.
Gloves come in pairs

Couldn't the fact that something different is happening to Owen than to Suzie (i.e. not healing up) be down to the fact that it was Jack and not a live member of the team that brought Owen back? Jack's immortality makes him different to everyone else and who knows where Rose brought him back from. It could very likely be down to Jack that Owen became a conduit to the Blackness and CGI!Death. It could also explain why Owen's not healing up and why he's going to be sporting a lovely big hole in his chest for the foreseeable future.
Is it still necrophilia?

Most probably, yes.
Something in the darkness

This isn't the first time it's come up in Torchwood. Suzie (as Owen mentions) said that there was something in the Darkness stalking her and something in the darkness was also mentioned in one of the Torchwood books (when Jack and Tosh were trapped in a church or a warehouse or something)
40% something else

Weevil? Moomin? You need to be a bit more specific.
And then for the bit where Owen is a bastard to Tosh

It's a depressingly regular thing
Black eyes are never good

That's always a good sign that there's something amiss.
Them and us

There's such rivalry between UNIT and Torchwood. It's not surprising really, because I bet UNIT know the reasons behind Torchwood being set up and they are very pro-Doctor. Bit like Martha is.

Yes I was singing the Sir Digby Chicken Caesar music during this bit
You got something to say about that?
She's a bit forward

Hang on, isn't she the bride? God I pity her soon-to-be husband.
"Special Ops? Special Needs more like?"

Jack proves what a brilliant manager he is by mocking the help.
Sloshy

Yup, that's exactly what three pints of Guinness sounds like. Sloshy.
"That is the single most disgusting thing I've ever seen!"

I have to agree with Jack there. That's way more than just a few pints of the black stuff. I'm impressed with Burn's perfect poise on his head there though. He's very steady for a dead bloke.
Forever's overrated

I take it that Jack's not a fan of the slow path then. Although he should be pleased that he's looking so good for someone who is at least in his hundred and eighties. (Although we don't know how much life expectancy has been expanded by in the future he could be a couple of hundred years old, and still lookin' good).
A tough manly moment

And after all the manly posturing from the pair of them they make up.
Weevil chase

There's certainly a lot more in the way of Weevil's hanging around Cardiff this year. Running to the top of a car park? Not one of Jack's better ideas.
The Weevil's greet their king

I am greatly amused at the idea of Owen being King of the Weevil's I'm just a bit sad that they only used it for this one episode. Maybe they'll use it again in a future episode.
Yay S1 props!

Is there nothing that little machine can't do? Translate books, open locks and now translate spoken alien languages. If Tosh is Team Torchwood's alien language specialist (which I'm sure was how she was referred to in the pilot episode) then really that little gadget makes her obsolete. Good thing she's also the one who's good with computers.
Owen's Weevil jebus

He's not the messiah, he's a very naughty boy.
Weevils caused the black death?

Well they live in sewers too. Maybe the black rat has been unfairly accused?
Voluntary embalming, so not fun

Owen's rather brave to do that, it's hard to believe, looking at series one Owen, that he'd willingly kill himself. But I suppose, already being dead and all, it's not that much of a decision for him.
Gwen still has feelings for Owen then?

At least she said goodbye this time.
The condemned man's last walk

The little moment between Ianto and Owen was quite nice. Even if it was only a look. After all they've had a lot of bad blood and hard punches in the past.
Spare hand three

Never trust a Risen Mitten. I wish Team Torchwood would remember that. This one seems to take great offence to Martha though.
Ianto with a hockey stick

Remember the other week when Jack was telling the policeman that he had a hockey stick in his room? *points at picture* Maybe in a past life Ianto was a top-class hockey player?
Noes Martha

It must really hurt to have a spiky Risen Mitten on your face. It definitely doesn't like Martha.
Old!Martha looks much better than old!Doctor
I even got a text off a friend which just said "she's STILL hot!"
It's the black smoke from Lost!

Does this mean there's a Rift and a Risen Mitten on the island? Is that why the Others were after control of the island? Suddenly a lot of stuff makes sense.
Death stalking a hospital is actually quite a scary image
There's going to be *loads* of kids who will not be happy about going into hospital now. Especially if they live in Cardiff.
Then some plot happens and Owen waxes emo and inspires faith in a small child, but all that pales into significance a bit…
..with Owen giving Tosh a massive snog

Hear that noise? That's the sound of the Tosh/Owen shippers rejoicing.
Owen's got faith, faith, faith

The fight with Death looked a little bit rubbish though. I think mainly down to the fact the foyer of the hospital was just too bright so you could see Death too clearly. If it was a little bit more shadowy I think it would have looked a lot better.
Young Martha yays!

Ianto's scream when Martha sat up was hilarious. Gareth David-Lloyd is the master at them. :)
Owen's still suffering with a nasty case of death though.

Poor lad. I'm sure it'll all work out in the end. One way or another.
Overall, I thought it was another strong episode. Although Martha didn't have as much to do (apart form sit in a make-up chair for *hours* getting her old lady!face done.)
A 8.5/10 from me I think.
