This week our team was named Jim's Exam Nerves (as Jim had had a picture framing exam that day and we couldn't think of anything else).

general knowledge (or as Stephen Fry would say general ignorance) )

The Picture round was all Hallowe'en themed with witches (East, West & Sabrina), guess the country (Romania), guess the films (The Sixth Sense (which we got) and Sleepy Hollow (which we didn't even though [livejournal.com profile] morbid_sparks gave me a copy which I watched the other week - grrr), who was the odd-one-out out of Herman, Eddie and Grandad Musnter and Gomez Addams.

In the end we managed to come second (our nemesis Billy & the Bowel Movements beating us by 2 points - grrrr) and won two bottles of WKD (yummy :/) and 2 bottles of Holsten Pils (between five of us).

The Boys V Girls round was a lot of fun. I even managed to guess one of the songs before everyone else (Sheryl Crow). His Lordship and Jim managed to have a conversation about Doves before shouting out Doves as the answer to the song. The girls won by 15-11. yay us!

Until next week then...
kaliha: (Friends // proverb)
This week we were called Jim's Elbow because, strangely enough, Jim's elbow was hurting for no apparent reason. Our team consisted of myself, His Lordship, Jim plus late arrivals Claire and Hugh. (His Lordship & Jim's brother in law was also supposed to come, but as expected he didn't turn up).

12 teams were playing last night, including us, obviously the crap weather discouraged people from coming along, including last weeks winners.

it's the General Knowledge Round )
Answers will be screened so feel free to take a punt at the questions and I'll let you know what your scores are. We did shockingly and only managed to get 11 out of 15 on this round. My boyband knowledge has huge gaps in as I didn't know what Take That's last number one was *is ashamed*. I'm sorry Gary, Mark, Jason, Howard and Robbie. Please forgive me.

The picture round we did a little better, correctly guessing Speedy Gonzales, that Southampton was where the Titanic sailed from etc. All in all we got 8 out of ten on the picture round. Not great, but not terrible either.

The sounds we did rubbish in, none of us watch soaps so we're buggered as soo nas anything vaguely soapy comes on, plus we didn't guess the Bodyguard or the Italian Job for the film clips, I couldn't remember the name of the animal programme Ben Fogle presents, but I did guess the Grange Hill in the tv themes round so I redeemed myself slightly.

The Music round was also shockingly bad. I have to hand my Rocky Horror membership back as I could remember the name of the bloke who did the Time Warp remix - Damian *sighs*

Our final socre was 28/40. Our worst for ages. But we managed to come second for our troubles. (First got 32).

In the Boys V Girls guess the song round His Lordship correctly guessed MC Hammer (he got mocked) Fine Young Cannibals, Guns ‘’n’ Roses and another one which I can't remember. He was mocking the girls, he's a very naughty boy.

Jim impressed everyone by guessing Red Hot Chili Peppers on the first note. FIRST NOTE!

I didn't guess any. Sorry, I just don't know Bustard or McFly or Will Young songs in order to participate. :/ The girls lost 15-14.

Then we came home to find that Doctor Who won National Television Awards in all the categories it was nommed for. \o/ I r very pleased for them.

Maybe now, with the ratings and the awards, TV companies will be more willing to put some money in to developing more Sci-Fi for UK TV. It's already starting with The Nekkid Adventures of Captain Jack Torchwood. Hopefully other channels will start to follow suit (and that they'll be better than Hex)

It's time for the Pub Quiz post!

No Jim again this week as he was in Birmingham doing stuff to prepare for his picture framing exams he's got in November so it was me, His Lordship, Claire, Hugh and Will playing as team Jim's doing an exam.

Things we learnt at the quiz this week:
[x] Gorilla's beat their chests when they're angry.
[x] The Eiffel Tower was built before the Empire State Building (and I even knew it was in 1889)
[x] The most popular holiday destination for Brits is Spain
[x] Lenny from the Simpson's surname is Leonard.
[x] Dates grow on palm trees
[x] Gareth Gates is the youngest male solo artist – ever – to go straight in at Number One.
[x] A snail's reproductive organs are in it's head

We lost a point on the picture round (where we usually get full marks) because we couldn't remember the name of the Building Society Mark Benton advertises. (You know the adverts with their effing new customers only *stabs* DIE! DIE! DIE!) (I'm sure he's a lovely bloke really and he is a good actor (He was ace in The Second Coming) but those bloody adverts annoy me soooooooo much that I cheered when he got shot by the Autons.

*breathes*

*breathes some more*

And now I am calm again. I wasn't the only one who disliked him/the adverts so it wasn't too bad.

On the voices/films rounds we dropped points by not knowing our disco classics, or fifties/sixties swing. But we did guess Phone Booth on the movies clips and His Lordship impressed everyone by guessing Where Eagles Dare for the other movie clip. Again no Johnny Depp. *cries*

His Lordship embarrassed himself in front of the group by guessing a Westlife song from just the intro. *tuts* I am so ashamed.

The scores were totted up and rechecked and out of the fifteen teams playing we managed a grand score of 31/40 which secured us a first place spot! Four bottles of Grolsh and four bottles of Irn Bru WKD were ours all ours. (The WKD is going to join the rest we've won over the weeks and become a care package to my sister – she's so poor she can't afford loo roll at uni – bless).

Then it was the girls v boys music round. I actually go one this week for the girls (Sugarbabes), His Lordship got two for the boys and Hugh managed three. The Boys won 15-13.

And then it was out into the rain and home for bed.

Until next week….

Much busier at the quiz last night with at least 3 teams of at least 10 people. Obviously the notority the pub has gained from Pete Doherty visiting has got business booming. Our team this week consisted of Myself and His Lordship plus, Claire, Hugh, Will and Jim who were all late hence our team name this week: Jim's Late (We're keeping to a theme here)

Things we learnt from the pub quiz
[x] Hitler was Time Magazine's Man of the Year in 1938. (This amused me greatly)
[x] Apparently in Scissor Paper Stone the loser has to tap the winner on the wrist with two fingers. (Not rules we've ever played by)
[x] The nail on your middle finger grows the fastest.

No Johnny Depp in the sounds or films round. *cries* But I did guess Bruce Almighty as the film clip so it wasn't all bad.

We had a very respectable second place, even with Jim's defection. (He got no Beer - ha!) Still can't quite get the elusive first, and we were beaten by a team called Minge

In the Girls v. Boys Music Round I shamed myself with Will Young (it's the song I thought for ages was called You're Gay - it's not it's Your Game *blushes*) and His Lordship redeemed himself by not shouting out for Vanilla Ice (Ice Ice Baby) or The Shamen (Ebenezer Goode) and he won it for the boys by guessing Michael Jackson.

And 'lo we went home and to bed.

Till next week then....

It's terrible isn't it? Romance must be dead when you spend your wedding anniversary with your mates at the local Pub Quiz (although in our defence we did go out for a meal, just the two of us beforehand).

It was a big team this week; His Lordship and myself, Claire and Hugh, Jim (back from his travels around Europe) and Claire's friends Will and Esther. In honour of Jim being home again the team was called Jim's Back!

Things we learnt at the quiz
[x]Death carries a scythe and an hourglass. (Not an iPod and an ASBO as one team guessed) (not us, we got that one right)
[x]The first word of Lighthouse Family's 'Lifted' is I.
[x]The DJ pronouces Jaoquin Pheonix's name as Jo-cheen, much to our amusement.

I impressed everyone with my impressively quick knowledge of how many colours there are in Smarties (8, by the way; red, orange, yellow, green, blue, pink, purple, brown). Hugh impressed everyone in the sounds round by correctly guessing an advert. he plucked the answer form the ether, it was amazing to watch.

Again it was another hard week, the DJ's really ramping up the difficulty of the questions.

But when the scores were totted up it seemed that our winning streak was over, only managing to come third. *cries* Because of our poor showing this week (and our great results in the weeks Jim was away) next week we're going to call ourselves Jim's in Disgrace or sommat similar.

This is a momentous occassion.

My One Thousandth Post.

So, yeah, Thank You!
I'd like *sob* to thank my mum, dad, cat and husband *cries* for supporting me. My teachers for teaching me to type; Van Statten for creating t'internet *giggles*. Everyone who reads this and leaves lovely comments *sobs louder*. I lvoe you all!! *ahem* I'm silly.

Pub Quiz
So we toddled off to the Pub Quiz; myself (Specialist Subject: useless facts), His Lordship (SS: sports, rock), His Lordship's sister and hubby (SS: Late 70s & 80s pop), Ellie (SS: Law type stuff), Claire and Hugh (SS: 60s & 70s Music).

Because Jim wasn't there (being in Slovenia and all) we named ourselves Jim's in Slovenia in his honour.

Random facts we learnt fro the quiz:
[x] The Crown owns more land in the UK that the Church and the National Trust.
[x] Antelopes are the animal that can jump the highest
[x] Locusts are the single biggest pest

We did okay, we came joint second. (As there's only 4 bottle of crap beer for second we have to have a tiebreak). The question being: How many people in every pick their nose and eat it. A quick straw poll around the team gave the guess 1 in 4 (yeah, we're all disgusting), the other team said 1 in 200.

The actual statistic is 1 in 70 (there's a lot of liars out there - there must be. :) )

In other news:
[x] back at work now, still full of cold
[x] another new temp, she's called Nic, she seems really nice. Did Archeology at Uni. Discussing places to go out in Shrewsbury. She's impressed by my getting barred from all of Shrewsbury that time
[x] broken the car again. Something happened to the clutch when I was going around the roundabout by Tescos last night and now it's 'clicking' when I press it down. We think the clutch cable may be going. Shall be trying to get it booked into the garage for the weekend
[x] my nan is still in hospital. She's ready to go home apparently. She's been moved into the intensive care ward. Currently she's got high blood sugar, pneumonia and they x-rayed her yesterday and discovered she's got gall stones too. it can only happen to my nan. Bless. She's fine though. (Well as fine as can be expected) Annoyed that she's missing her soaps though.
