Again our poor little show is shoved around the schedules. It's the BBC's top rated drama and they shove it here, there and everywhere, no wonder the ratings have dropped when compared to last year, no one knows when it's on!

I wonder how many people turned over to Eurovision last week and thought they were watching some strange, musical version of Doctor Who?

Would Madam like an upgrade?

The Doctor likes his jiggery pokery. Obviously a super!phone is going to be integral to the plot

I bet that's going to be expensive

It's 70p a minute to call from France, just imagine how much it'll cost to call across the galaxy.

Mauve alert! Mauve alert!

Luckily the TARDIS has already changed the bulbs so she was ready for action. She's a clever old ship.

Gratuitous Converse shot

I'm positive this is classed as product placement. ;) *wags finger* naughty BBC. He's probably only doing it to show off just how tight them trousers are. Not that I can hear any complaints from much of the viewing public. :D

It's this year's licking, I swear.

I like it warm but I don't like it too warm.

It's just an excuse for Freema to show some skin. Probably.

They look so small

I do like shots like this. Showing how small they are in the big scheme of things.

Shouldn't the sun be, y'know, brighter than that?

It's obviously an energy-saving sun. 11 watts or something.

*makes 24-style noises*

I do like the idea of it being real time. Just a shame that, just like 24, it wasn't really real-time. It was also missing the 24-style noises. It also didn't really heighten the tension – like I think it was supposed to do. Although the background shots of Martha and Robin Hood-lookilikey working on the first door was a nice touch.

Gratuitious glasses!porn shot

Check.

Ooh, he's a cheery one, isn't he/

I suppose you need a doom and gloom naysayer on every ship, maybe it's in the job description. Even Martha wants to spark him out.

I spy with my little eye some reused props

Y HALO THURR MRI machine from Smith and Jones! Painting yourself red does not a good disguise make.

There's nothing more scary than a twitchy hand

oooooooh, scary!

The Doctor makes a biting social commentary on the state of education today

I'm not sure they even teach prime numbers in school now. They barely teach reading and writing judging by some of the things I've seen by the youth of today.

Intergalatic pub quiz

But is that UK or worldwide You're not being very specific there. Lives are at stake. That's just a bit of slopping writing there. Bad Chibbers, no cookie for you.

Okay then, who's tried to ring Martha?

Go on. Own up. The BBC should have set up a fake voicemail message attached to that number to be completely made of win.

I'm rather glad the Doctor has got rid of his licking fetish

Because that would have been really distasteful.

Cindy Beale's still a bit rubbish with men

Although Corwin seems to have a bit more about him than Ian Beale ever did.

Are you my mummy?

New!Who really does seem to be moving towards scary things in masks or helmets.

Ooh nasty

That's a bit harsh to be showing on an early Saturday evening. I'm very surprised there weren't any complaints about the man who got his head boiled.

They're picking us off, one by one

The crew realise that they've fallen into the bastard child of Event Horizon and Jason X. Abandon all hope all thee who enter here.

Help!

This was so nicely shot

elephant stew!

It really was. Maybe the Doctor should have gone for less shouting so that Martha would be able to understand what he was trying to say.

Icy

Why haven't they realised yet that freezing is only a temporary solution. Corwin's already defrosted himself once.

Martha gets a bit emo in her moment of doom

Poor Martha, did didn't expect to fall into the sun on her first trip out as a member of Team TARDIS. Thank goodness the Doctor super!phoned her phone so she could say goodbye to her mum…

Oh Francine what have you done?

…it's just a shame that her mum is selling her down the river. No cookie for her either. I thought it was Sally from UNIT to begin with and got depressed to think that UNIT have sold out the Doctor. So I was somewhat relieved to discover when I got a good look at her that it was some bint from Hollyoaks.

Why do spaceship designers put really important buttons on the OUTSIDE of the ship?

It really is very poor design. If you needed to have buttons on the outside then why not have corresponding ones on the inside of the ship? Like planes have handles on the inside and the outside of the doors. It's common sense really.

IT'S ALIVE!

*tries not to make a Brian Blessed comment here*

*fails*

I do like a siwrly special effect

Have a mentioned yet this week how ace The Mill's CGI work is? No? Well Ill do it here then. I like the fact the ship looked a bit like a bird, it reminded me of Baltazar's ship.

I'm burning up

It's a scene that's made of so much win:
[x] Martha reading the instruction manual so that she doesn't accidentally kill the Doctor.
[x] The Doctor trying to tell her about regeneration – Martha won't listen though because nothing's going to happen to the Doctor – she's very sure of herself isn't she?
[x] The Doctor being scared – oh bless him.
[x] Time Lord dental cover – so the new teeth come complete with fillings? No wonder they felt so weird. ;)

Cindy realises that she's bollocked up

Shame it's taken her forty minutes to realise that. But that's humankind for you, always doing stuff on the cheap, even in the future. Was it even established how far in the future they were? I don't remember there being anything said, but I did only see the episode once.

It's officially nippy, so say his nips

Anyone spotted that spacesuit from anywhere? It really is an episode of recycling. *considers being really harsh here, but decides against it*

Hasn't got the hang of hide and seek

What a rubbish place to hide. Surely Martha and Robin Hood-lookilikey proved that an airlock is the worst place to go and hide.

What an awful way to die

:(

Burn with me!

Poor old Doctor, it can't be fun getting burnt up form the inside, particularly when your core body temperature is so much lower than a human's. (Is that fact or just fanon?)

Martha takes control

See, you need to have someone bossy around to take control. That's what I really like about Martha, she does take control and she does try to keep a level head. (Admittedly she does fall apart occasionally, but who wouldn't?)

Pretty CGI

So, so pretty.

Like a really bad hangover

I don't think a couple of alka seltzer will cure that headache.

Awwww

no really, awwwwwwww.

Poor charred TARDIS

She can survive earthquakes, space travel, asteroids and all sorts without a scratch but sat in a hot room and she ends up all toasty. I wonder if she'll still be looking a bit battered next week too? (Like the arrow staying in the door between The Shakespeare Code and Gridlock

Martha says thank you in her own special way

He still looks like Robin Hood. But with less hoodie.

Martha is very pleased that they're not dead

Well any way you return unscathed is a cause for yay in the TARDIS.

The Doctor has an emo moment

because it’s not an episode without it.

Incidentially, I really prefer this way of lighting the TARDIS, more gold, less green. Looks a lot better.

Keys to the door

Martha's now officially a companion. It only took half a series.

Martha rings home

because she loves her mum…

Oh Francine, what have you done?

…sadly her mum's love seems to involve putting her daughter into greater danger, without even realising.

Why does Mr Saxon have such a vendetta against the Doctor? In a roundabout way the Doctor got him in power, and it can't be because of [Spoiler] because [Spoiler Spoiler Spoiler]. It's very strange.

In Conclusion
Another solid episode. I wish Chibbers' Torchwood episodes where of this standard.

8/10

Next week looks made of win. Small children are going to be petrified of scarecrows though. I'm going to be petrified of scarecrows.

I forgot how creepy scarecrows were until I watched Batman Begins the other day.

Although I suspect I shall be sorely disappointed if I expect one the scarecrows next week to take off its mask and be Cillan Murphy...

Guh, the kiss with escape pod boy is still so very hot. Martha keeps picking up the best girls and boys. Why can't they come along too?

Great review as always, love some of the really detailed caps you got, like Martha's number!

The way that everything else always has to come second to sport has always disgusted me. The BBC do realise there are a lot of non sports fans who also pay their fees, too, yes? But we get treated like we just don't matter. Grrr. But then, I've always thought it was absolutely ridiculous that they air Doctor Who during the spring months...it should be a winter show. Winter telly is mostly crap and something like DW would really help during those long, dark nights.

Oh I so want to phone that number!!! Must resist.

I liked the ep but I must admit that it did still feel a bit like what can we have Martha do that Rose did too at times. Like the key that was forgotten after season one being resurrected for whatever reason this episode. And life being threatened by a sun and the threat of being burned up- The End of The World and here. The jiggerrypokered phone. I'd like something completely new please... or at least that feels new.

Saying that I liked it.

Scarecrows are friggin' creepy. I remember an episode of Round the Twist when there was this creepy scarecrow who came to life because they used magic clothes to dress him, like a homicidal Frosty the Snowman, except he was only homicidal because he wanted his girlfriend's clothes to have a body as well. We three kids were traumatised for months.

Round the Twist ftw! That show used to freak me out so badly sometimes. I don't remember the scarecrow one though.

The fillings...I had to go back and watch again (was rough, but I was willing to take one for the team). Hee.

Enjoyable and witty recap as always. Huzzah!

Total LOL at elephant stew.

I was so thinking as soon as Martha's number was shown that people were going to call it? I wonder what you get ...

And I'm just about to watch Cyberwoman and now I'm afraid to watch if Chris Chibnall's Torchwood eps aren't so great ... eep!

I'm positive that bloke didn't mean Martha when he said he'd found someone. I was sure he meant the guy who was stood next to him and she just read it wrong.

Glad I'm not the only one who noticed his fillings :)

The Robin Hood lookalike was in Shakespeare Retold's Midsummer Night's Dream. He was very good in that *nods* He can believe in me any time he likes ^^

I'm so glad to see someone else liked this episode. There seemed to be a lot of hate out there. I was beginning to feel alone in the world.

I hope you don't mind, but I've added you to my friends list, because I really love reading your picspam commentaries. No need to add me back (unless you're insanely bored); it's just for my own convenience. :D

Also agreed on the disturbingness (which totally isn't a word) of the guy getting his face fried. Yikes.

I hope this week's will be as good as it looks in the previews!
