I've finished it!

That's it, ten long years and it's all over. It feels a bit strange.
It's nice to see that the internets is still here, but I think the real wank is yet to come.
Trundled off to Tescos at midnight to go and pick up my copy. They are very bad kitties because they were selling the book for a tenner (and not a fiver like they were advertising - but I couldn't be arsed to head off to the 24 Asda with is miles away). The place was absolutely heaving, they had two massive pallets of books (in one each adult and childrens editions) by the doors and there were people literally running to get their copies and reading them in the queue to pay and everything. Then back home to a cuppa and my bed to make a start on it. I wasn't going to rush it (after reading HBP in about four hours), but I read pretty much continuously until 5.30am (with occassional breaks for more tea and chocolate) until I could barely keep my eyes open. (Hey, I'm getting on a bit, I can't pull all-nighters like you young'uns). Back up again just after 8am to finish it off. In total about 6 hours to read it (including tea breaks and feeding Bilbo and stuff).
The "Truth will out" moments
Some point in the future historians will gaze across the blasted heath which is all that remains of the internet. Destroyed on 21st July 2007 it has been concluded that it was caused by a single paragraph in a single book:
Harry on Hermione, Page 308, Deathly Hallows
You could feel the cries of outrage from the Harmonians, it was almost drowed out by the smugness from the Ron/Harmione shippers :D That single paragrah alone is going to cause about five years of seriius wank.
[x] Dumbledore using Harry as a weapon and that who section in the Pensieve: interestin to see how Dumbledore had it all planned out from the start and how much he trusted Snape and how he had a lot of stuff very intricately planned out. Making your own destiny? Pah. it was also nice to get some backstory on Dumblydoor and finally get to see a bit of a human, selfish side to him.
[x] Mrs Weasley > everyone. fact. She's certainly better than Bellatrix - although their fight did have me worying for Mrs Weasley's life (I can't call her Molly, even though that's her name, it's just wrong)
The "WTF" moments
[x] Muggle Studies? Since when? Is it like the Wizarding equivalent of Citizenship?
The "it's just dust in my eye, I'm not crying" moments
[x] Hedwig. Poor old wol.
[x] Ron storming off and leaving Harry and Hermione to carry on alone. Oh noes, that sort of thing never ends well.
[x] Dobby. oh Dobby. I was okay, until they gave Dobby clothes just befor they buried him. :(
[x] Tonks and Lupin. Who killed them? What about baby Teddy? What on earth happened to their characterisation?
[x] Fred. Poor Fred. Why couldn't it have been Percy, annoyingly little git. (Percy actually reminds me of Buffy-era Wesley, but with less redeeming features)
The "bloody hell" moments
[x] Kreacher actually having some love for Harry, Ron and Hermione and making them treacle tart and all sorts. because true love is a nice pudding.
[x] Snape being a good'un all along. (Even though he was only doing it for selfish reasons) And the whole Snape/Lily wannabe-OTP - that was rather out of left field. Blimey. Am still a bit undecided on how I feel about that. So does this all boil down to the fact Snape hates harry because he's not his son?
[x] That bit where Harry realised that he'd have to kill himself. I did this face: D:
[x] Neville. I really did miss him for the first 500 or so pages her wasn't in the book, but he certainly made up for it when he did appear. Professor Longbottom - LOL.
[x] Godric's Hollow. That was all quite exciting. Yay for Hermione and all. The pages in the graveyard were a bit :~(
But the book wasn't without it's "make you smile moments"
[x] Dudley thanking Harry.
[x] Accio Hagrid!!!
[x] George does a Van Gogh. At least you could tell them apart. Now it's too easy :( Poor Fred.
[x] I want one of those little beaded Mary Poppins-style bags. That would be so useful. and I bet that's where Hermione got the idea too.
[x] Potterwatch! = Lol. And it's nice to see Lee Jordan's commentating experience set him in good stead for the outside world.
[x] Oliver Wood!cameo of win
[x] Some interesting baby names going on there too: Scorpious?? LOL. I wonder who Mrs Malfoy is? Pansy?
The "It's all gone a bit Matrix" moment
[x] The whole dead/not-dead/thing crying under the seats in the deserted Kings Cross Station. There can be only one &c &c
The "those will look really good in the film" moments
[x] The many, many Harry's
[x] Harry seemed to spend quite a few moments in the nip/near-nip in this book. I wonder if those will make it to the film for the DanRad fans? After all, he's not bothered about whipping his kit off.
[x] The last battle. Maybe it'll make a bit more sense when it's visualised. Will Peeve's appearance in the final battle mean that we'll finally get to see Rik Myall on screen?
Miscellany
[x]
amybrown584 and
taperoo2k: are you feeling smug as you correctly guessed that Harry is a horcrux?
[x] I wonder what it's like for the cast reading the books this weekend (most likely) only to discover they've been killed off? That must be amazingly strange.
[x]I really did think that JK Rowling would kill Harry off - I'd been thinking that from quite early on in the series too, so I was surprised that he lived. I wonder if there's a Rocks fall, Everyone Dies ending just sitting on her computer?
[x] This will probably be the only HP book I'll ever get His Lordship to read as it's the only one without any Quidditch in it.
[x] From a shippy point of view (and as a closet R/H shipper I'm quite pleased how that turned out) but I expect many, many people will be very upset about it. I expect, at the very least, some flouncing out of fandom.
[x] I wonder if, in ten years or something, there will be a series of books focusing on Teddy, Scorpius, Albus Severus, Rose (!) et al and their adventures?
In conclusion: I liked it. 7/10 And less than three hours sleep is not good for you. I feel like death warmed up (and probably don't look too disimilar)
