After my fun-filled weekend, when I really should have gone to bed I went to another gig.

Where: The Academy 2, Birmingham
When: Sunday 11th November

For those of you who don't know, Martha is the little sister of the slightly more famous Rufus Wainwright.

As, is sadly becoming the norm for Academy 2 gigs, the place was full of complete twats who talked all the the way through the songs. Standing behind us were a pair of fishwives who were cackling constantly. And there was a girl on the other side of the room who kept shouting out songs that she thought Martha should sing next. There was a lot of contempt thrown at her and her friends did slap her to keep her quiet.

Martha herself was very sweet. Very softly spoken. Spent a good five mintues scoring dope off the crowd (which I'm sure pleased the Academy Management no end) and got a roll-up for her troubles.

She played a couple of new songs, one of which needed crowd participation during the chorus with us doing a 'nininininininini' sound whilst she sung. It was quite fun. She also played a lot of her released stuff and like Rufus did a Leonard Cohen song. Which she said got bumped off the DVD of the concert she did and she was replaced by Bono singing the same song.

Now most singers/bands sell the usual at gigs, CD's T-shirts, posters, that sort of thing. Martha is the only person I know of to sell little red knickers and boxers emblazoned with "Motherfucking Asshole" on them! :D

Final Score 7/10

At our first Manics gig, my sister got a Britneyesque black skinny top with BRAINDEAD MOTHERFUCKERS printed on the back in gold. That was cool.
