cold and dry down here. We didn't even get snow when the rest of the country was covered in the stuff.

It's still fecking old down here! When everyone else had snow, Dartmoor had snow (even on the lower bits), but we failed to get any. It was still just as cold, we just didn't have snow. I'm moving north one of these days.

But you do get nicer summers, I suppose it balances out. My sister had snow when we all had snow and she was down in Plymouth which is even further south than you!

True. And when I'm staying with Dave we're less than an hour from lovely cornish beaches that the tourists generally don't know about, unless they're the kind that travel with surfboards. I would suggest a meet up down here in the summer, but we're going to Cardiff.
