Adventures on safari

kalihaHis Lordship and I went to West Midlands Safari Park this week to see the animals. (Okay I admit it, I mainly went to see the baby lions) - what can I say. I'm a sucker for baby animals.
These little beauties were the first animals we encountered after we entered the 'reserves' the way mama rhino was wandering through the cars was a bit disquietening. And they move so fast and gracefully for such a huge animal too.
The Zebra were huddled together talking about the aebra who wasn't in their clique, which was a bit mean.
The wolves couldn't be arsed and just sunbathed instead.
This little cutie was a right cam whore.
My favourite picture of the lot. I couldn't get over how Bilbo-y some of the big cats were. There was another tiger in this enclosure that was lying on his back legs in the air, just like how Bilbo sleeps. It made me lol.
I tell you, it's an ever harder life being a big cat. Sleeping, sitting, staring. Jam packed their days are.
They even ear-wing like their smaller, more ginger, cousin. This lion has spotted a massive coachful of chavvy children.
The white lions are absolutely gorgeous. We didn't get very many pictures thanks to the coach of chavvy children that continually blocked out view. Gits. Daddy lion was rubbing his face up again the chain link face with a look of absolute bliss on his fayce.
The lioncubs are just the cutest things ever. The one on the left was doing some intensive stalking. Another one pounced on one of the lionesses and got a real thump between the ears off her. They were all so playful, two of them were wrestling, one was stalking and the other was very carefully washing his/her face.
His Lordship's favourite pictire from the outing. I like the tiger that is sleeping up the top. I never realised just how *massive* a tiger actually is. They're *huge*!
This white tiger was hurling abuse/gossip at the normal tigers next door. You could feel the growls/rumbles. It was a bit like...you know when you're at a concert and you can feel the baseline in your chest?...it was like that.
Evil tree, evil tree...we don't go anywhere now without a camera to take pictures of evil trees and the safari park had loads of them. it was absolutely tipping it down right about now, for about a minute then the sun came out again.
Nonchalant Heffalump was just standing there, back legs crossed, looking nonchalant. The other elephant was using the remains of the trunk in some sort of cunning plan to get sticky buns.
His Lordship made a new friend in theform of Bambi here who came to pig out of deer food.
His Lordship quite liked the little guy.
The camels were directing the traffic.
These two were having a nice little sunbathe.
Literally five seconds before this picture was taken there were two kids standing in the hole of the sunroof, they disappeared pretty sharpish when Jeff the Jiraf came over to have a gander (and see if there was any deer food left).
In the reptile house there was an exhibit that was all black rock. The kid in the reflection was going "what's in here mummy?" Mummy takes a look "nothing dear." COMPLETELY MISSING the BRIGHT GREEN gecko right in front of their eyes.
My other favourite picture. When Iwas little I always wanted a pet leopard (or maybe a cheetah), I think that was why I ended up picking Little Ginge over a black and white or tabby cat. She had a big blue ball to play with.
I have to admit that I'm not a big fan of zoos and some I think are almost barbaric (Y HALO THAR Drayton Manor Zoo) but the animals do have nice big enclosures and there's no sign of the pacing that signals a very depressed animals, in fact the baby deers were gamboling and everything. The big cats could have had some cat toys through. At least the Leopard had a ball to play with.

Date: Monday, August 20th, 2007 09:19 am (UTC)I'm lucky in that I've never been to a bad zoo. We've got Howletts and Port Lympne near us and they're considered two of the best zoos in the world. And they have red pandas which are just the cutest things in existence.
