Yes, it was nothing more than a seven-minute love letter to Classic Who, but I adored it. Which I think was helped, in no small part by the cast.

Back in the mists of time, there was a little girl who watched telly. Not a lot of telly, but a bit. And one of the things this little girl liked was a programme with a big white room, flashing lights and a man with wild hair, wilder eyes and a massive scarf, Then one day the slightly scary man changed into Tristan from All Creatures Great and Small and it was love…

Surprise Martha!

This is the thing with time travel, a lot can happen in the time it takes Martha to cross the road and go back into her parents house. It was very cleverly inserted into the episode and the bonus Martha is always a treat too.

The Mill love their swirly camera effects

Oh the Mill do like this special effect don't they. As other people have pointed out "and macro-ed to great effect) it does look like he's getting a little bit of invisible lovin'. Ooh Matron!

Doctard!

He’s not really as gentle as his last regeneration? "although Eccles was hardly gentle, what with his mallet and all). All the mounting of the console desk though – I’m quite glad I’ve not got small kids to explain why he’s doing that!

Of course, now I want to see all the other desktop themes. I wonder if one of them is a grassy hill with a blue sky? :D The leopard-skin ones sounds intriguing too, so much better than the plain white of the days of yore.

The ‘desktop’ comment now makes it easy to explain away any sudden changes in the look of the Console Room/other TARDIS sets.

The TARDIS specialises in stowaways

Although technically, is he a stowaway on his own ship?

He’s still my Doctor

It’s as if the last 20 and a bit years never happened. Yes he’s looking a little bit older, and a tiny bit wider, but he’s still the Doctor I grew up with. And the Moff explained away the sudden aging so very easily too. Then again, the Master did show how easy it is to age a Time Lord and I do have half-remembered memories of a time travelling science-fiction story where the lead character did age rapidly the further forward through time he went. "Does anyone have any idea of what this is?)

He’s got his name in lights!

I bet he was really chuffed about that. "And they spelt his surname right too)

The Doctor even manages to wind himself up!

With his crickety-cricket gibbering and practically bouncing up and down in complete !glee. How much of it though, is really acting and how much of it is complete fanboying from a certain Mr Tenant?

It does look a bit surreal

Which is mostly down to the fact I’m so used to seeing Fivey on very monochromed sets.

He’s not even acting is he? He’s just in full-on fanboy mode.

He’ll be asking him to sign his Fifth Doctor boxsets in a minute.

Oh and the Fifth Doctor has met LINDA? WTF? How come the Tenth Doctor didn’t recognise Elton?

A hole the size of Belgium

It’s not a very impressive end to the universe. But the Doctor"s) feels duty-bound to sort it out. Even though in the grand scheme of things a hole the size of Belguim – not that worrisome – there’s black holes much, much bigger than that.

Saving the world with a kettle and a bit of string

Now, the Doctor was impressed when he discovered that Professor Yana had made a spaceship from bits of string, but much less so when it was a Time Lord. Even when it’s himself. The Tenth Doctor is like one of those teenage kids who start to go a bit mad if they’re separated from their mobile phone for more than five minutes.

Decorative vegetables

Yes, it’s true that not many people can pull it off, but the Fifth Doctor does, so much so that no one really comments on it. I couldn’t even remember why he had it in the first place "thank to the interwebs I rediscovered that it is basically an alien carbon monoxide detector to help the Doctor out with his allergies) "Allergies I presume he doesn’t have any more)

Smug Mode

Saving the world

I’m a bit sad they didn’t save the world by reversing the polarity at ANY point during the run around the console. Missed chance Moffat.

Arse, I’ve gone all see through.

That was some subtle trying to figure out where in the Fifth Doctor’s life he’d dropped in on.

But mentioning that the Master’s come back? Oh bad form. If all his future regenerations remember how to save the universe with timey wimey science then surely he’d also remember “Oh by the way the Master’s back, and he’s denying his true feelings for me/you and got himself a wife."

Glasses!porn

The Fifth Doctor doesn’t even need them and just used them to make himself look cool? Oh! My world is all slightly askew. And by implication so does the Tenth Doctor.

All my love to the past

Now he’s off to go sort out Tegan and Turlough and end this regeneration staring at Peri’s boobs. Lucky him.

“You were my Doctor"
And mine! And mine!

A moment of pause

Oh and while the Doctor does some naval gazing "I’m sure it’s a lovely naval too) "He’s probably getting all emo about letting Martha walk right out of that door, the fool)

I’m going to yak on a bit about the music. OMG! How rubbish was the music from the days of yore? I remember it being so cool hen I was little, but it is all synthesised and sounded like a particularly annoying Nokia rintone. It instantly transported me back to being a kid and watching it in the living room with my dad and the awful flock wallpaper we used to have and everything.

Someone’s crashed a bloody great ship into my ship!

And then we’re back in the plot again. Hoorah! Kylie!

I know I shouldn’t worship at the altar of the Moffat, but I can’t help myself. Yes, it did have it flaws "paradox inducing ones no less), and no real plot to speak of "but then again you are constrained by the fact it’s been slapped in the middle of something that generally has newsreaders singing and dancing *shudders*) and it was a little bit too self-congratulatory, but I did really enjoy it.

Another plus point in it’s favour was that it actually had a proper name. Because Pudsey Cutaway was just rubbish.

Oh, oh! I have a random Peter Davison fact: according to my immensely knowledgeable friend, he wrote the theme tune for Button Moon. This makes him officially awesome. "and also explains my non-Who icon up there)

In other Who news I’ve been watching David Tennant’s video diaries on the new boxset. God love him, he took that camera everywhere with him.

[x] I spent about an hour after The Shakespeare Code section referring to everything as “ye olde"
[x] I am HORRIFIED by the blatant match fixing between Davey-boy and Noel to get K-9 voted off. Terrible, and what an example to set to the kiddies.
[x] And he outed John Barrowman too.
[x] Why did no one comment on how old!John Smith looks like David Dickinson?
[x] His chat with Catherine Tate made me lol a fair bit, in particular the conversation on whether or not she’s an actual companion or not, especially considering who will be joining Team TARDIS next year.
[x] His old man dancing made me laugh for ages too. Generally because it just looked so long.
[x] The last section where he was going on about how tiring it is and how you should know when to leave made me all sad. He’s really not staying beyond the specials is he?

David: "John are you gay?"
John: "Shhh... nobody knows"

Oh dear, I love those two. I really hope he's staying on, he seems to love it so much...

(Hullo! Here from who_daily.)

Mawdryn Undead? It wasn't the Doctor, though, it was Tegan and Nyssa, who had been 'contaminated' by Mawdryn - if the Doctor tried to go forwards, they aged, if he tried to go backwards, they de-aged, and child!Tegan was a scary, scary thing... XD

I must have squeed aloud a dozen times watching this, and I nearly did again reading your recap.

Seeing Peter Davison's name fly across my screen again? PRICELESS.

*bounce*

I totally believe the fanboying was 100% authentic Tennant. You're so right - he was thisclose to "Sign my DVDs".

In the screencap where the two Doctors are standing side by side, bumped all up one against the other...I had a moment where I couldn't help wondering where their hands were. Damn guttermind.

Of course, now I want to see all the other desktop themes. I wonder if one of them is a grassy hill with a blue sky?

GAH. You mean the one that looks like the land of the Teletubbies?

Also, I really must get my hands on the S3 boxset. Hopefully someone will get it for me for Christmas, since Scooters tooth-pulling took all my extra cash. Silly puppy.
