Or where I'm from: soaup.

Ooh I love a good soup. It really sums up winter for me, with hot petit pain fresh from the oven on a cold and damp day. Nothing better.

Apple and Parsnip Soup

Makes 4 decent sized portions

Apparatus
2 Big Apples (I like raeburns, but whichever you like)
500g parsnips
1 small onion
50g butter
2 veggie stock cubes
1 1/4 pints of water
1 pint of milk

Method
Top and tail the parsnips and chop into little chunks

Core your apple and also chop into little chunks

Melt the butter in a pan on medium heat and when it's all bubbly add the apples and parsnips.

Cover the pan and cook for 10-15 minutes, stirring occassionally.

Dissolve the stock cubes in the water.

Once the veggies are soft add the stock and simmer on a medium heat for about 15 minutes.

Transfer the lot into a mixer and give it a good old zuzz (that's a technical term thx)

Sieve it back into your original pan removing all the gakky bits

Add the milk, mix well and warm through

Serve.

Conclusion
nom nom nom nom nom nom nom.

Quite pleased with how it came out. Admittedly it's not as good as the Covent Garden soaup (who did the best A&P soaup ever) but it's still yummy.

And you know what, I'm going to go and have some now.

You know I've never had soup. I think the idea of it freaks me out slightly. Bits in liquid squick me.

Want to see me run around your kitchen screaming? Quickest way is to stick my hand in the washing up bowl when there's crumbs floating in it...

What do you mean the men in white coats will be here soon?

No bits in my soup, just thick and creamy lovliness. Which I realise sounds really wrong. :(

Well it is soup but our accent drags out the o a bit making it sound like soaup.

It was most famously mocked by some sketches from the Smell of Reeves and Mortimer where Vic and Bob (and friends) played members of Brummie band Slade.

That actually sounds amazingly nice...plus it can be cooking while I'm bashing out a bit of uni coursework or setting up an animation piece to render. I might give it a go!

If I said "super", hypothetically, how long would you ban me from your journal? ;-)

I made your soup this evening (I had nothing else to eat and spare apples and parsnips) and very nice it was too. Had it with some fresh baked rye bread after a soggy football training and it has warmed me up nicely!
