Torchwood's always been hiring the pretty ones

Harriet's the 1918!Torchwood's version of Tosh. I'm sure Jack would have liked to have made her aquaintance.
And in the past everyone spoke with brilliant cut-glass accents. I want one of those. I loved their scanning device - and like Tosh's it emits a definite hue of blue.
Unexpected Tosh

What's she doing in the past then? Honestly, present-day!Torchwood, always getting into trouble.
Someone's had a payrise

To be able to move from a little terraced house into a rather lovely flat. I'm not sure if I'm a fan of the smoked glass windows but that's just me inner Changing Rooms watcher talking.
And Tosh is all excited and happy and wearing a dress! This is obviously a momentous day.
That's obviously the only working door

007 was where Jack was kept after his terrible case of death, and where poor Beth was cyrogenically frozen. But we'll pretend we've not noticed, they're working on a limited budget, and it's smacks of meanness to pick holes in the lush set design.
A moment to please the Owen dislikers

That was quite a punch. Owie. Tommy and Gwen could form a ninja fighting group and go fight crime and punch people, or something. I'm sure BBC drama would pick it up.
Tosh practices her "trust me" face

Would you trust this woman?
Actually yes. She's by far the least batshit of the lot of them.
Ianto: know your place!

Aww, his little face really fell when he realised he was expected to make the drinks. And TEA at that. His emo tummy!rats are mocking him as the kettle boils.
Breakfast meetings

I get the feeling this is how Team Torchwood spend a lot of their time. Eating take-out breakfasts from the local greasy spoon and watching GMTV.
Tommy is quitely lamenting the fact that miniskirts still aren't back in vogue with Torchwood's ladies.
Old fashioned stuff for the win

And doesn't Tommy look smart in his uniform?
Gwen wouldn't have been able to open it anyway...

...because wimmin are rubbish at opening tins and jars. That's why men were invented.
Tosh and Tommy go out for pizza and a drink

Bless them, aren't they cute together.
This picture is purely included just for the facial expressions

hee!
Places to visit in Cardiff - part 122

Torchwood is like a massive advert for Cardiff's Tourist Board.
You weren't allowed to smile in a photo in 1918

I suppose that was because the exposure times were so long, your face would drop off if you had to hold a smile for so long. I wonder what 1918's Hub was like. It obviously wouldn't have a massive scuplture in the middle of it, and I presume there would have been more floors, rather than cathedral-like space. And were there more staff or was it just the two of them, fighting the good fight on their own?
Ianto is terribly pessimistic

They all die. Yeah, thanks for that Ianto. I really wanted a big old foreboding of death. Cheers.
Cheer up, emo teaboy

Tosh is a closet Pool god

Angles and stuff? She's been watching that episode of Quantum Leap hasn't she?
She's whooping Tommy though

Yay Tosh!
Meanwhile, Gwen is scared of an amputee in jimjams

I don't understand her fear, even with it being a ghost. It can't touch her, being a ghost and all.
However, a builder is actually terrifying

Especially if they're waving invoices around.
Jack joins in the emo parade

I don't know why he's touching the floor though. I think we can safely assume that Jack was not a member of Torchwood during World War I, he was out fighting in France. Oh Jack, following the wars around the world. You really did have a bit of a deathwish once you got off the GameStation.
Owen's left to mind the shop

And is very grumpy about it. See?
Tommy wonders if we're worth saving

Something that Doctor Who's come back to again and again. Tosh thinks we're worth it. Which is good.
Jack looks manly with a torch

Notice how its only people in films/TV shows who hold their torches like that. Mulder and Scully used to do it too. But when I do it, I just feel like an utter gimp and have to hold it normally.
Technically, should the torchlight go through the ghosts?

Just sayin'.
I'm scared...

I may have actually done an 'eep' of scaredness when the nurse poked her head back around the corner.
Continuity error ahoy

Watch Tosh's bag in this scene...
Awww

It's so sweet to see the two of them like this. It's nice to see Tosh so happy, although this is Torchwood and no one is ever happily in love for long.
I wonder if Tommy dreams of Tosh (or just dreams in general) while he's all frosty.
Owen continues to show his newly-formed sensitive side

He should have got mauled by a weevil ages and ages ago. It's made him a much nicer person. A likeable person at that, and that's something I never thought I'd say.
This is Jack's srs face

I still doubt the validity of anything kept for nearly 90 years in a posh biscuit tin.
O Hai! here's this week's McGuffin

And technically it's also a Key to Time.
Jack's lsot his office

And appears to now be working in a corridor. His desk is a thing of 1020's beauty though. Just look at those curves! And the little bit of
It's a good likeness

Saving the world in my pyjamas? That's just daft

Mark off pop-culture reference on your bingo cards everyone.
Tosh invites Tommy home to enjoy his last night in the future in more comfortable surrounds.

Menawhile, Ianto does some subtle interrogation of Jack

And I'm positive that he's not just asking to get Jack to say "I'm here cos I luff you, Ianty". There's an ulterior motive, I'm sure of it.
Oh, and then there was some snogging

The Jack/Ianto fangirls (and boys) imploded with glee. There was head holding and everything.
Team Torchwood and Tommy head off to save the world

But not without more than a touch of old-skool clutching of each other.
Poor Tosh

Always getting her heart broken. That's like three times in two years now. Poor lass.
Travelling through time, you see a lot of cupboards

It must be an unwritten rule of time travel.
Torchwood blood = magical powers

It's like a biological Swiss Army knife - so many uses. This week use your DNA to allow you to psychically travel through time.
I did not get teary right around now

Honest.
What is it with the UV lights scattered through the Hub?

Has Jack installed them so he can catch people's underwear glowing though their clothes?
Owen adopts a new role

Comforting Tosh in his own way. (Blimey they had some really rubbish weather for the external shooting.)
In conclusion
I thought Tosh got some great characterisation, and Tommy was frankly brilliant. Their relationship was very touching, albeit doomed from the very start.
Jack and Gwen are taking a real backseat at the moment and the others are getting a chance to shine which is smashing news. I wish they'd stop with the magic blood/DNA though.

I need more TW icons.

Date: Friday, February 1st, 2008 09:42 pm (UTC)First of all, it wasn't any old posh biscuit tin, it had time vortex in it. Or they used the same old special effect. I know which version I prefer.
Jack and warzones. I know someone who lost someone very dear. He was in the RAF at the time and volunteered for a warzone, any warzone. And in return he got a certificate saying he was sane. Apparently, because he's lost it.
So last week Owen was being a git to Gwen. And this week comforting Tosh. After the week before where he was almost maybe hinting at something between them. She wouldn't have him anymore, or so I hope. That said, last year I had a weak spot for him (thanks in large to the books), but it's growing. That said, the "let me comfort you" Owen is just creeping me out. It's wrong for him to be so nice. Please go back to being all cunning like last week, that was good old Owen.
Oh and as for torchs. The one I use hangs around my wrist until I actually need to hold it (holding torch, dog lead and attempting to pick something up into a plastic bag in the wind and dark btw isn't fun).
I think that covers all the serious Torchwood comments. Just to add that I've been laughing so loud that I think next door might have heard me.
