1) Are cats allowed to eat cheese? Mine's developed quite a liking to Tesco's Applewood smoked cheddar (but only if it's grated). I only let him have a teeny tiny bit, but he always wants more.

2) What's good for breaking up hairballs?

My cat eats cheese all the time. At first we tried to not let her near it but she'd just steal it or whine. It doesn't seem to have done her any harm. We still make sure she doesn't have much though (better safe and all that). *s*

Not a clue about the hairballs thing though. Sorry.

We were told by our vet that under no circumstances should our cat have cheese. Their stomaches can't deal with it and it causes problems.

cheese in small amounts is okay.

hairball remedies: Info HERE (http://www.animalworldnetwork.com/bhairarefelf.html) i like using either the "treats" with the lubricant inside(oh! that sounds pervy) or the flavored stuff you put somewhere for them to lick off. currently i am alternating the food between regular stuff and hairball formula. i have noticed a decrease in the dreaded hairball hacking and haven't been finding "presents" left for me. good luck.

Our boy Bill would starve to death if we didn't let him have cheese (with the tablet that stops his tyroid going crazy, and hence the starving).

The whole cats/milk thing is true, but it's also true in humans. Humans aren't designed to be able to digest milk after we've weaned, but some of us can because we aren't weaned off milk, just the species changes. Oh and the lactose that can't be digested is dealt with when milk is processed into cheese.

I know you can't give dogs cheese.. one of my cats eats it all the time and it doesn't make him sick.

I have no idea about hairballs. I try to remember to brush my cats every day so they don't get them.

Cheese is fine for cats.

I think it was something like camphor oil for hairballs? Not too sure, though.
