ZOMG! We had an earthquake. I realise that us Brits are going to be soundly mocked by people who live in more earthquake prone areas ("5.3? I do farts that measure on the Richter scale higher than that" etc etc) but for us it's all rather exciting and a bit surreal.
About half twelve last night Bilbo woke me up. He was stalking up and down at the bottom of the bed all fluffy and angry. About five to one he huddled down behind me knees and started doing this horrible growling interspersed with spits and hisses. Then the earthquake hit. Because we were much further away it didn't feel like the Dudley quake. It was like a lorry thundered through the house making everything rattle and vibrate before dying away.
As soon as it was past us Bilbo stopped growling, curled up and went to sleep. He's obviously a little ginger earthquake detector.
His Lordship: BILBO! Up to his old tricks last night
__kali__: I know! I just emailed you about it
His Lordship: Aye. I'd gone to bed but I was awake when it hit and it scared the crap out of me cos I thought someone was shaking my bed! That's what happens when you sleep in a pitch black room with ear plugs in. Where was the centre then?
__kali__: Lincolnshire. Bilbo was not impressed. Even Minters crept up onto the bed afterwards.
His Lordship: I bet it was
jimboharris, dropping something heavy
__kali__:
jimboharris felled out of bed. Probably
His Lordship: I was thinking that maybe he was restoring a cannon ball and he dropped it
__kali__: A REALLY BIG cannon ball. Maybe Bilbo jumped on a train to Lincolnshire. Made an earthquake then jumped on a train back and it was actually Grilbo on the bottom of my bed disguised as Bilbo?
jimboharris: I slept through the whole thing! the only one apparently. And I slept through a text straight after asking if id felt it. Disappointing but I'm the fresh one this morning!
His Lordship: A bloke in Barnsley was woken as his chimney fell through his roof and broke his pelvis. OOOOOUUUUCCCCCCHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
A little bit of back story as to why a small, ginger cat would be causing an earthquake:
Back in 2002 an earthquake hit Dudloi (or Dudley for those of you not reading phonetically). At the time we'd had Bilbo for about 3 days. (He was seven weeks old). I woke up just before the earthquake hit us and it woke His Lordship up with a start, absolutely convinced that this tiny little kitten was trashing the living room, making the house shake and making stuff topple over in the loft.

My new batches of glass came in the post yesterday and I was all looking forward to experimenting with them but then idiot me left them at work. Gah. So I'll be experimenting with them tonight instead.

In other news I'm currently reading the second Locke Lamora book Red Seas under Red Skies. I called the first book a cross between Casanova and Ocean's Eleven, but this second book is even more so as they are actually trying to rip off a casino. Only this time crossed with Pirates of the Caribbean as where I'm currently reading Locke and Jean are training to be pirates. Yarr. I'm really, really enjoying it.
In the movie of the books in my head Locke is currently played by David Tennant (because he's slim, pretty and also slightly funny looking) and Jean by Matt Damon (Maaaaaaaaaaaaaatttttttttttt Daaaaaaaaaaaaammmmmmmooooonnnnnnn) (because he's handy with the old fighting and would be able to do the actiony stuff with ease). (And yes I do realise that David Tennant is about 10 years older than Locke is in the book) I'm still working my way through casting the other characters. Those of you who've read the book already: got any suggestions?
