I'm catching up with these. Slowly.
Oh no, it's a blurry action shot

Hoorah for Donna's mum. Proving herself calm in a crisis she paid attention to the shouts across fandom of "break the bloody window!" Surely a side window would have been more helpful for getting Wilf out but she did more than the Doctor or Donna so Hoorah for her!
wilf's just a bit shocked by it all

I'm sure this wasn't how he planned his day to go.
Clone!Martha tries to blend in

I'm surprised that Martha has such massive clearance. Especially when she's just a Medical Officer. She shouldn't have the sort of clearance that allows her access to all the tactical weapons launch codes. That's just crazy. What if she was a bit insane, or evil or being impersonated by a clone…
Ross has also been proving himself useful

By tracking down the only Atmos-free taxi in London.
It's no wonder the Master took control so quickly

If you can access the deep inner workings of UNIT using just a palmpad. UNIT security for the lose. It makes TORCHWOOD THREE look competent. (Mostly, they did have that incident with the poetry).
Donna hides out in the TARDIS

Probably the only place in the world impervious to the gas. I don't think you could get six billion in there though.
The Doctor actually has to ask Martha to come with him

I think this is hen he realised that there's something amiss. After all, Martha would be ready and raring to go with the Doctor if he wanted her there or not. It's a choice that he has no choice in.
The Sontarans get themselves a nice conversational piece

It's a bit pointless stealing the TARDIS. It's nothing more than a hostage, after all they won't be able to get into it.
Donna takes a peek outside

She's probably thinking "oh bollocks" right about now
The Doctor tests clone!Martha and she fails

spectacularly. She may be accessing Martha's memories but I wouldn't be putting it past Martha to try and block her clone self from accessing certain memories or try to pass of fake memories as truth.
School's out

At least it's nice and sunny on the outskirts of town.
The Doctor makes a booty call

And then spends the next couple of minutes insulting the people trying to destroy the planet. He certainly has an interesting ay of dealing with problems. Generally by arguing.
Surprise Rose

I didn't intentionally go for the most unflattering cap I could of her there. It's just really hard to cap a blink and you'll miss it scene. It does look like she's yelling OI! Right about then.
The Doctor's not impressed

Neither is Staal

I think Staal wins the best De Niro face competition though, but it's a close call
The Doctor tries to communicate with Donna through the medium of mime

It's not very well done. And makes the Sontarans and the other UNIT members present think that he's a complete nutter.
Donna catches on quick

But doesn't know who to ring. After all if she calls Martha we'll lose about twenty minutes of plot and that won't do.
Luke has an emotional crisis

because forcing people by gunpoint is *always* going to go down well. :/
It's he's not mad. Honest.

Donna does an ET and calls home

You never know maybe Wilf will come up with an inadvertent, yet brilliant plan.
He doesn't but he shows off his quite brilliant braces

We should have more men and omen in braces on TV. They're so useful and fun. And yu can ping them for comic effect too.
The Doctor is pensive, clone!Martha s just a bit bored

And wonders when all the running and fighting is going to start again.
The Doctor experiences a rare emotion

(for him anyway). Helplessness. There's absolutely nothing he can do and no matter what he does he can't prevent what is going to happen, just look into the what will be and find the least damaging path to follow.
It's good thing it's not a windows launch programme

it would crash right about now.
Oh dear, it seems to have broken

Have you tried switching it off and switching it back on again?
It's the world's littlest army

You can just put them n your pocket and take them everywhere with you. Bless.
Oh Ross

I may be in a bit of denial here, but as far as I'm concerned out Ross is still alive. It was just a glancing blow from the Sontaran ray gun and he was gravely wounded and knocked unconscious but with a lot of TLC from Doctor Jones he as as right as rain again.
The Sontaran's love a good bit of fighting

Curse your sudden and inevitable betrayal!

You almost feel sorry for Luke. Almost, but not quite.
The Doctor goes all serious

You can tell this by the fact he's got his glasses on and the fact he's lit from beneath. This is srs Doctor tiem nao.
Donna tells him to stop arsing about

and sort out saving her. Because how is she going to fight off a spaceship of tiny soldiers?
Oh, says the Doctor

I've got a plan that's even more cunning than a sack of cunning weasels. Get the mallet and get to work.
Ok, I've got the mallet, now what?

I really, really, want someone

to write a proper published bit of meta that states that this is, in part, a homage to Mallet's Mallet. (no pauses, no repetitions…)
It's Donna's turn for the bad puns this week

"Back of the neck!"
The Doctor is very impressed by the punnage.

And remembers it for future use in a future incarnation (or when Donna's not around).
Donna is saved by one little thing

The Sontarans are rubbish at designing battle helms and the ones they've got give you no peripheral vision. Which is lucky for our Donna don't you think?
Are you my mummy?

We started saying it the moment the Doctor was thrown his gasmask. Oh how we laughed by he did it too. It's nice to see some references to earlier episodes. And really, how could you not mention one of the most iconic things about New Who after the Daleks and the Cybermen.
It's the Valiant – here to save the day!

Lucky that it doesn't run on Atmos, although it most be terribly expensive to run.
The Valiant's energy weapon

doesn't look too dissimilar to the weapon Harriet Jones used to blow up the Sycorax.
it's Gallifrey's version of a Swiss Army Knife

Is there's nothing the sonic screwdriver can't do? It can even track energy signatures like a weird version of Sat Nav. Clone!Martha decides not to blow her cover by knocking the Doctor out although se looks sorely tempted.
The Doctor ignores the fact that clone!Martha is pointing a gun at him

all his concern is focused on Martha. (Quite right too). You do realise that David Tennant is emoting at an empty ex-Cyberwoman bed there. That's okay then.
And he proves that he has been paying attention to Martha too

noticing the clone has the wrong number of hair follicles on her temple. Not that *is* attention to detail.
Martha's just glad to see him.

And choses to ignore that the Doctor said that se was balding.
Martha, meet Martha

it'll get confusing very quickly. I feel it's a bit of a shame that they didn't do more with this scene. It boiled down to "I'm dying" "I know, but I'm going to live my life" and there was no grief over clone!Martha's death. Ok, she may be 99% Sontaran but she still has the face of a friend, you'd think there'd be more compassion form certain parties.
He's of the old school

And wouldn't dream of shooting anyone in the fact. Not even the enemy.
Can we haz a Donnah?

The Doctor orders his dial-a-Donna. This one comes with extra hugs and less slaps and free onion rings.
then there's some plot

and people tell off Luke who's feeling all emo already and Martha makes the Doctor's coat look good on her.
Poor old Earth

It's looking a bit smoggy down there.
The Doctor McGuyver's a solution out of a kitchen roll and some sticky backed plactic.

It's surprisingly impressive

Although setting fire to the atmosphere surely can't work in real life science without killing everyone and taking out the Valiant as it hovers in the air? Surely the flames would eat up all the oxygen? (based on my knowledge of London's Burning) I can happily handwave a lot of stuff to make way for the squee, but for me this didn't quite work.
Wilf and his neighbour celebrate in the way of all old people

hands in the air, trying not to dislocate a hip or something.
and even UNIT suffers from some good old-fashioned celebration too.

Hoorah everyone!
The Doctor goes to tell the Sontarans to get orf 'is land

And is willing to give up his own life in order to save the Earth and the Sontarans. But is so often the case, there's no possible way to save both, but the Doctor won't/can't make the choice to sacrifice the Sontarans over the Earth.
From a technical point of view

That was a really nifty explosion.
Martha and Donna show their happiness in very different ways

Martha with a hug and Donna with a (really hard) slap. I think someone's ended up with a dead arm right there. ouch.
The Parting of the Ways

Note how it's Donna ho invites Martha back to become a part of Team TARDIS 3.0. I thing the Doctor doesn't want the rejection.
The TARDIS isn't letting her favourite newly qualified Doctor away that easily.

And sends them off on a magical adventure. Ooooooh! I wonder where they'll end up.
In Conclusion
A much better episode than the previous weeks, but still full of plot holes and clunky dialogue. Which is a shame because it had some really brilliant bits (like the Are you my mummy? line). And the pacing was all over the place, which also made me sad.

Also made of WIN - Firefly quote! Aw, Wash...*sniff*
Of course Ross is still alive.
I squeed over UNEXPECTED ROSE. I'm so easy. *g*
Is the Doctor smooching that mobile phone?
Loved it when he said "Are you my mummy?". Doctor FTW!
Loved Donna's "welcome back, glad you're alive" smack upside the arm. Heh.
Loved the burning atmosphere, at least, visually. I want a job at The Mill...
For a moment, just a moment, I was afraid we were going to have a surprise regeneration. Silly dense me, I didn't see it coming that Luke would switch places and sacrifice himself. *facepalm*
