Saturday I had the house to myself and no reason to venture outside and interact with people, so I was up bright and early (no really, I was up at 6.50am) ready to load up the kiln and get it going.

So here are my pieces for today's trial:
Top: 4 1x1cm dichroic squares topped by two layers of clear glass
Bottom: 5 1x1cm dichroic pieces that have already been fused (you may actually recognise them from my first fusing trial)

Mid fuse: the kiln is around 700*C at the moment and it's in the cooling down phase. Doesn't it look lovely and shiny? It's very hot in there and I didn't want to damage the camera lens with the heat hence the slight blurriness to the picture.

15 hours later: all nice and cool. Hoorah!

Gutted! Can you spot that one of the pieces didn't fuse? The whole lot must have shifted when I put it in the kiln so it wasn't touching. The 'petal' in the top left also shifted but was close enough to fuse to the main body. Poo.

At least the second piece turned out better. The silver bits are rather reflective and lovely. It's a bit like a glassy Battenberg cake (mmmmm cake).

Damn you errant petal! But is still pretty.

And the first thing I thought when I saw that was 'Glass Batternberg!'

I wonder what other cakes you can make from glass...
