So a few weeks ago I went to the races at Chester. It was our wedding anniversary present and it was quite a lot of fun although I didn't win a penny. :( It was organised by His Lordship's work go we got to rub shoulders with the posh Cheshire set.
(This was why we couldn't lend you our spare room

The lovely view from our hotel room. (Our £125 a night hotel room. Yay for His Lordship and his 'free nights in hotels' vouchers).
The green behind the houses on the left-hand side is the racecourse and the hills just visible through the mist is Wales.
As you can see the weather was absolutely beautiful. A good thing when you're going to an outside-based event.
Tea and coffee facilities: very good. We had a mini bar. And a trouser press. Bill Bailey would be very pleased.
You can get about twenty people in that bed. It was MASSIVE. And we had a little sitting room too. I was very taken by the little LED bedside lights and want some for my room now.
Look at the quite brilliant chandelier that the hotel had. Made up of hundreds of star-shaped tubes. I was quite taken with it.
Look! Horsies!
We were in the 'Long Room', it was the second most posh bit of Chester Racecourse (the poshest bit being the Private Boxes that were upstairs).
Although there are none in any of my pictures, there was an awful lot of plastic surgery on display and some really nasty looking dresses. Oh and lots of drunk wimmin in high heels falling over, and in one case tumbling down a flight of concrete stairs. Luckily they were so drunk that they didn't hurt themselves very much.
To be honest I think it would have been more fun in the bit in the middle where everyone was picnic-ing and playing on the rides.
Look it's a horsebox selling lovely, lovely Pimms. I am now a bit disappointed because I couldn't see any Pimms on the optics behind the bar. Now I want some. But don't fancy nipping across the course in my heels to go and buy some. I shall do without with a sad face on. :(
I have a system when I go betting on horsies. I go with the name I like the most and put the minimum bet on a place. Works a treat at the dogs. Worked less well on the horsies. Although I couldn't help but bet on a horse called Captain JackSparra. Just a shame he came second to last. Obviously he'd had too much rum.
We even put a bet on for His Lordship's grandmother (who loves a flutter on the horses). She'd been studying the form and wanted a tenner on My Aunt Fanny. We thought it was be a dead cert. It came (and I quote the commentator here) "absolute last". Gutted.
His Lordship to the rescue! When visiting the bar he noticed that Pimms was ON TAP! ready mixed. Brilliant! So he went and ordered a jug to see us through the last five or so races.
Unfortunately they had run out of jugs so we had to have our Pimms (without cucumber and lime, just lemon slices, FOR SHAME!) in two pint glasses.
That's right I was drinking two pints of Pimms. It made me a bit merry.
The glass was bigger than my actual head!
After the races finished we headed off to the hotel for a sit down and a rest of weary feet before heading back out again to the quite wonderful Ruan Orchid for a yummy thai dinner.
I had a duck and coconut concoction which was probably the best Thai meal I have ever ever eaten. Yum.
The following day we did lots of lovely shopping in Chester (including spending a massive amount of money in the sweet shop, mostly on sugar mice).
