Apparently a mouse can live in the human intestine for three days.

I still don't know how derren did it. I get how plausible it could be but if it was so easy why aren't more syndicates winning?

Next week's looks very interesting. I recommend going to the loo beforehand! Anyhoo, aren't subliminal images banned on telly over here?

It was probably faked, very easy to do with todays on the fly video editing technology.

I think by him warning you a week in advance you're sort of agreeing to be subliminalised. It's not like he's making you buy a product or anything like that (although he is making you sit and watch his ads...) The long and short of it is if it was illegal he wouldn't be able to do it.

I'm intrigued though, definitely. He's a tricky git.

possibly. We went to see him on tour a few years ago and the show had a lot of subliminal video running through it. When they showed it on channel 4 they had to cut all of the subliminal stuff because it breaks Ofcom regulations, so I'm very interested to see what he does and how he does it.

...see, but how does the mouse GET there without first passing through the stomach, where it would almost certainly die?

My friends big brothers used to tell her when she was a kid that mice live in your belly button and that you must always keep your belly covered otherwise they'll move in and eat all your insides - which are made of cheese.

Well, it's just as plausible as using automatic writing to win the lottery! :D

I was in the audience for the filming of the getting stuck to chairs, so I is all silly and excited to see if I is on the telly with Derren :-)

OMG! I will be looking out for you - and completely missing all the subliminal stuff.

I was SOOO disappointed. I was hoping he'd jokingly point out the dozen or so different ways it was possible to have rigged the live bit on Weds, then launched into a nice clever bit of probability to prove how daft anyone is for entering the lottery. Instead he gave us automatic writing (which he's already debunked) and some maths which was so specious even I could tell it was cobblers in multiple different ways. (An averaging of 24 people's choice of a number between 1 and 49 that comes out with 2? Pffft.)

I'm glad at least he threw in the 'or maybe I rigged the machine' bit for lols, but it seemed like the opposite of his usual technique: he seemed to think we might believe in that 'wisdom of the crowd' bollocks, when usually he shows us why we shouldn't. My faith is all shaken, poo.

The automatic writing thing made me both LOL - because he's said half a dozen times that it's utter bollocks and realise that the whole thing he showed us was a complete and utter con. He showed us last might just how gullible ppl are!

As [livejournal.com profile] taperoo2k pointed out, it was probably all TV trickery, and I think that's the point. Everything Derren does in this series is going to show just how easily we believe what we're told.

Mind you? His Lordship's lottery syndicate will probably have a go at next week as they play 30 lines a week and in a year have won less than £100 - so they've got nothing to lose.

I'm waiting for tonight - his twenty four people will have undoubtedly tried again and put on twenty four 'winning' tickets. I can't wait to see their reactions.

I'd never watched Derren Brown before last night when me and [livejournal.com profile] lilyfer were chilling on the sofa and wondering how he did it (I was recalling Jonathon Creek) then suddenly he came out with the "bonus balls are for gays and women" line and we were like lolwtfcanhesaythat? I'm definitely going to watch more of him. He was a funny guy.

I bet Camelot are completely interrogating their workers right now

How did someone find this out? WTF were they investigating?

My thoughts exactly. It appears that scientists can get grants to research ANYTHING!

Ooh, ignore my ranting: having read round a bit, I think I'm supposed to have had exactly that reaction, and he's now gleefully rubbing his hands together about the fact that we're all thinking about probability on a Friday night. I foresee there being a grand reveal of a masterplan by the end of the series. Gosh, he's a clever bastard.

I miss Derren! His show was on Sci-Fi for like 10 episodes but then they stopped showing it. It was so cool!

And how the hell can a mouse do that? It's not killed by the hydrochloric acid in the stomach on it's way to the intestine? It's not excreted in 3 days? How did someone find this out in the first place?

I didn't actually watch this lottery thing, I only watched this reveal show. It was a split screen, which I guess he'll tell us about later? It was obviously a split screen superimposition of a line of balls behind which somebody was placing the actual balls.

I usually don't mind the man but he really annoyed me in this show, his mysteriousness about maths and probability really got up my nose, plus the fact that he was lying. Bleuch.

You're probably right. Derren readily admits that he's a conman and this is quite obviously a con because automatic writing is bollocks. Still it was an entertaining hour of telly for a Friday night.
