Last night we decided to have a bit of a catch-up on the old Sky box and clear a film or two off there. His Lordship picked Public Enemies which I was fine with (because, hey, nearly three hours of Johnny Depp? That’s not a hardship for me).

And Claire from Lost was in it! And Stephen Graham (who, as a side note, His Lordship bumped into in the Original Burger Company in Brum a few months back – now there’s some who you don’t want to jostle, have you seen This is England?)

I did point out, quite early on that it’s a bit unfair of the FBI to have Batman on their team. Batman would easily take out Capt Jack (Sparrow). One throw of the batarang at Jack and the rum would be all gone and Jack would be sad.

This got us coming up with other possible Depp/Bale combinations and who would win in a fight. What do you think?

[Poll #1592071]

We got distracted after a bit by the story line so this line of thinking did somewhat fizzle out a bit.

I love 1920s/30s set gangster films. I fully blame Bugsy Malone for warping me at such an early age. It’s the sharp suits and the cars with the running boards and the pie guns. It’s weird how bank robbery and illegal stills and all that sort of stuff seems so romantic – when it so blatantly isn’t. It’s amazing what you’ll accept when some Hollywood fairy dust is sprinkled over it.

Oh and as a little aside, one little thing I loved in the film (other than Mr Depp) was the wax records the proto-FBI used to record telephone calls. They were ace. I wonder if there are storerooms in the FBI headquarters just full of those?

I thought the movie was pretty awesome too. Though I must admit that gun scene with the house and the forest drew on a little too much, but other then that, loved it (only watched it last week actually ;))

Patrick Bateman v Willy Wonka sounds hilarious: at last, a suitable sequel to Freddy vs Jason!

Obviously Bateman will think he's winning for most of the film, but he doesn't know about the ravening horde of axe-wielding Oompa Loompas crawling up the lift shaft...
