[livejournal.com profile] steviesun, you may want to skip over this post.

So, I was driving to work yesterday morning, minding my own business. I was on the motorway and overtaking a lorry at about 60mph, a couple of hundred yards in front of me was a pickup truck with a tarpaulin over the back. It was flapping in the wind and suddently flew off straight at me. Because I was on the inside lane and next to me was a lot of lorry (or the central reservation).

I stomped on the breaks to slow down (luckily there was no one in front of me), flashing the pickup (as was the lorry). I hit the tarpaulin and it tangled under the car. (It seems that if you break hard in my car the hazard warning lights come on automatically. This is highly useful). Sadly the Mini coming up very quickly behind me ignored them. The tarpaulin untagled from the underneath of my car and went straight over the bonnet and part of the windscreen of the Mini.

I pulled over to check my car over (luckily there's no damage to the underneath of my car at all). And the Mini driver pulled in behind me having a rant because his aerial was all bent out of shape, but he was okay too.

The pickup never even stopped or slowed down. What a twonk.

Tbe Stig would have been so impressed by my calm (albeit highly sweary) dealing with the situation. I was a bit shakey when I got to work but I was generally okay.

Yikes!

Can't believe the bloke in the pickup didn't realise he'd lost it. What a twonk.

I read it. Bloody scary and I have no idea how I would have reacted. But I am seriously glad you and your car are ok.

Cars can be fun and all, but they're death machines too.

Well done for your cool and calm copey-ness. After-event wobbles are to be expected really!
