External Hard Drives are more trouble than they are worth. My second one has gone now. And it looks like exactly the same thing that knackered the first one (the usb bridge/driver corrupting) - only problem is is that this one is 9 days outside it's twelve month warranty. ARGH!
I've not lost *everything* this time. I backed up eight DVDs of stuff when the last one went tits up, but I've still got probably six months of stuff that could be lost beyond repair.
I'm going to have to take it around to His Lordship's Dad tomorrow to see if he can retrieve anything from it at all.
Recommendations for any external hard drives? I'm going to put my birthday money towards a new one now.

Date: Tuesday, May 1st, 2007 05:38 pm (UTC)The hard drive thing is alarming me: was planning to invest on one as my laptop has 'I'm going to die any minute, bitch' written all over it and was thinking it would be a nifty backup-type thing. But if I have to back up everything on disks anyway, what's the point? Feh.

At least yours lasted longer than 2 weeks which is more than my last one did.
I now have a 400gb Freecom which according to Claire (and the very nice man at PC-World) is apparently pretty good.
I hope you can retrieve the stuff off there. I lost all my data both times mine went because in my case it was an actual disc-drive fault which corrupted all the data to the point that there was nothing left to actually retrieve.

Might be worth a note though that PC World are selling 400GB one for about £80. I'd be getting it myself if I had the cash right now.
