Poor Mr Bilbo. He's not been very well the last few days.

The last few mornings Bilbo's been throwing up. Being a little boy cat it's definitely not morning sickness and he's been fine once he's been sick going "oh hai, iz it breakfast tiem nao?"

Worried that he'd accidentally poisoned himself I pulled on the rubber gloves and when I was cleaning up I was checking for slug pellets or lily petals or anything like that. Because that cat will eat anything! I couldn't find anything so I decided to take him to the V E T S today. In a tricksey manner I tried to tire him out with his laser pen and his fish on a string so that he would be a bit more pliable to get into the cat basket.

Fat chance of that.

I did eventually get him into the cat basket only to trap his tail in the lid. Oops.

The vets always look a bit worried when I walk towards them with a hissing cat basket, although Bilbo was quite well behaved for a V E T S visit. He tolerated being poked and prodded by the vet who diagnosed that Bilbo was either:
a) pregnant (unlikely, being a little boy cat)
b) suffering with heartburn.

I didn't even know that cats could get heartburn. For his troubles Bilbo got two injections (one anti-inflammatory to reduce any owies in his stomach/throat, one steroid-based to calm the nausea) and I was packed off home with some medicine that I need to try and get in his face twice a day.

I didn't do so well tonight and ended up hiding it in Bilbo's food. I am made of fail.

So that cost me £53 tonight :/

And if he's still throwing up by the end of the week he needs to go back again for blood tests and an x-ray in case there's a problem with his insides.

Whilst the vet was checking down his throat he commented on how Bilbo's teeth need a bit of a clean (I value my face and my arms, I'm not sticking anything in his mouth!) so Bilbo will be back off to the V E T S at some point soon to have his teeth cleaned (He'll be sedated for this, it's probably for the best).

During my placement the one thing I really dreaded, more than pinning down and injecting badgers, more than taking bloods, more than catching an angry eagle - was giving a cat a tablet. Even the vet nurses had real trouble with it. The damn animals are so slippery somehow.

For something that manages to stick to you so very well when it wants a cuddle, they sure can make themselves scarce when it's something to be shoved down their gob.

I once had to give Bilbo eyedrops. I still have the scars to show for it :(

Aww poor bilbo!
Are you on a petplan? Cos my parents have that for our dog, and its turned out to be worth investing in, since he's had ligament damage and a million other things, saved us literally thousands :O

I've got a pet insurance but I have to pay a £50 excess so I'd only get £3 back, it's hardly worth it. I'll save it for the next time Bilbo dislocates his hips.

Aw, poor cat. Here's hoping it's just a heartburn, cat scratches take so long to heal ;)

Awww, I hope it's heartburn and not something worse!

,i>He'll be sedated for this, it's probably for the best.
Definitely - my old cat was as mild as they come and even he did his best to mutilate me when I tried to clean his teeth. Cats are the worst patients in the world.

He's much happier today and as he's not been sick so am I.

Not looking forward to taking him to get his teeth cleaned though.

Aww poor kitty! I hope it's just heartburn and he recovers quickly.

My cats don't like going to the vet, but whenever my mum takes the cat cage out they're lining up to sit in it! haha.

Stupid pet food companies, they had stuff to clean dog's teeth that pretend to be treats but nothing for cats! Having said that we have always fed one meal a day of biscuits and one of tinned meat and never had teeth problems so Bilbo must be unlucky.

I hope it's heartburn, I really do. Saxen and Bilbo can compare notes. My part-cat lurcher has been doing a very good job of avoiding his tablets. Part cooked mince did a good job of hiding tablets. And they can also be hidden in the cavity of pilchards (27p for a little tin). You're not failing if hiding in food works - you're winning!

You can get little biscuits for cats, but Bilbo's so greedy that they don't ever reach his back teeth, he just bites them in half and swallows them.

My Londo is an adorable cat, loves fuss etc... but when it comes to the V-word, he turns into a hissing-dervish! It's not the visiting, nor other animals... it's the B O X.

As for ikkies... Vikki is nearly 17 years old. She suffers badly from moulting, so at least once every other day she throws up. Plus she's bullemic! She'll eat as much as she can, thenn throw it up again... ~Sigh~ then back to the bowl 5 mins later... So when she does that, we keep tissues handy to TRY and catch it. At 17, it's not worth getting much done medically for her...

My cat isn't too bothered by the B O X, until it goes in the car, that is. Then he knows he's off to the Bad Place.

Over the weekend I did a bit of quick thinking and caught his catsick with my hand. Quite possibly the most disgusting thing I've EVER done in my life.

Aww hun. :( Love to you and Bilbo. I hope he feels better soon. It's so upsetting when a pet is poorly.
Also hope you don't get too attacked in the get-well process.
