Thanks to the wonders of the BBC iPlayer I'm watching Merlin and making a few scattered notes as I watch.

  • I have decided that Merlin, occupies the same far-future world as Robin Hood does, at least this way the historial quirks are less worrisome.

  • The titles gave me scary Bonekickers flashbacks.

  • Anthony Head can be my king any day. Even if he's magicaphobic. And doesn't he look good in a crown?

  • I think I've been watching too much Torchwood. I can recognise Eve Myles even in old!man Doctor's make-up.

  • In my head Richard Wilson went I don't beeeeeleeeeeve it! when Merlin saved him. I make my own fun.

  • How lucky that Lady Helen and the old woman looked so alike :p

  • Teen!Arthur is rather a cock. I hope his temperment improves during the course of the episode

  • Eve Myles: very pretty in period dress. I'm a big fan of that purple dress.

  • They should bring back the stocks. They'd look really nice in my town centre. Nothing like a bit of public humilation.

  • "I'm Lady Morgana's mate..." definitely the same far-flug world as Robin Hood. I'm keeping an eye out for hoodies.

  • I'm quite taken with young Merlin (no, not in that way, he's like half my age!) as a character he's rather likeable, not too dim, quite fun. Yes, I'm rather taken by him.

  • Ooh, there's nothing like a bit of mace!fighting.

  • Oh Merlin, don't use yer magic. Only bad can come of it.

  • Surely the wound-cleaning scene has been put in purely for the rapidly converting fangirls :D Well it is the easiest way for a show to start to gather the screaming hordes.

  • Yay dragon! It's the quickest way to get my support in a show. the CGI was a little bit off, but he is really well animated and he's John Hurt, you can't get much better than that. (That's even better than Sean Connery. TRUFAX.)

  • Doesn't the boy ever knock?

  • "Who'd want to marry Arthur?" LOLGuinevere.

  • Is she singing in Welsh? I'm sure I recognised a couple of words there. It's all very pretty.

  • Those cobwebs are pastede on yay!

  • It would have been more heroic for Merlin to have jumped in front of the knife. That's what would have happened had it been Robin Hood. (Apart from that time where it didn't.)

next week:
OMG Will Mellor!

Aww, they thanked Rusty in the credits. That's actually quite sweet.

In conclusion.
I rather enjoyed it. But it's got a dragon in it. Of course I would. It's straddling the line of silly, but mostly staying on the right side of said line.

A nice diversion: 7/10

I was talking to a friend today about how if Merlin was in Heroes or X-Men he'd just be considered another normal lad who by quirk of DNA has evolved beyond homo sapiens but stick him in a historial setting and he becomes the greatest magician of all time. (If he was in Torchwood Jack would just want to flirt with him, much to Ianto's annoyance, after all they've got apocalypses (apocalypsii?) to advert.) Discuss.

It's only telekinesis after all.

Ha, only.

And now I'm going to watch Lost in Austen.

I loled at Will Mellor. I liked Merlin, but the entire cast all look so... MODERN. If you get me. :) They don't really look like they were from that age.
